In response to a question from what appeared to be a journalist at a campaign event, Lake made that abundantly clear.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou said you feel like Joe Biden is dividing the country, but do you feel like Donald Trump is doing the same by falsely telling people that he won that election when he lost it?\u201d the man asked at a recent \u201cKari Lake for Governor\u201d event. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s a dishonest, straw-man question meant to bait the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/arizona\/2021\/09\/28\/donald-trump-endorses-kari-lake-arizona-governor\/5837690001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trump endorsee<\/a> into giving the corporate media ammo for their <a href=\"https:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/kari-lake-election-denier-arizona-173612605.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">incessant<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/22\/the-election-denier-smear-is-the-dumbest-rhetorical-device-in-modern-politics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ridiculous<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/news\/2022\/08\/election-denier-wins-kari-lake\">\u201celection denier\u201d<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2022-election\/kari-lake-trump-backed-election-denier-wins-gop-primary-arizona-govern-rcna41317\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">smears<\/a> against candidates such as Lake, but the Republican was unfazed. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince when can we not ask questions about our elections?\u201d Lake asked. \u201cAs a journalist for many years, I was a journalist after 2016 and I distinctly remember many people, just like you, asking a lot of questions about the 2016 election results, and nobody tried to shut you up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lake\u2019s point is valid. Hillary Clinton, Biden\u2019s Press Secretary\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/09\/bidens-new-press-secretary-is-a-stolen-election-conspiracy-theorist-who-called-trump-an-illegitimate-president\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Karine Jean-Pierre<\/a>, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/06\/poll-more-democrats-denied-trump-won-where-were-democracy-fears-then\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">whole slew<\/a> of congressional Democrats denied that former President Donald Trump was legitimately elected in 2016. Not only that, but they still tout and fundraise on the lie that Trump colluded with Russia to steal the election. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t see how asking questions about an election where there were many problems is dividing a country,\u201d Lake explained. \u201cWhat I do see dividing a country is shutting people down, censoring people, canceling people, trying to destroy people\u2019s lives when they do ask questions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Lake, there\u2019s nothing wrong with Americans exercising their freedom of speech to ask questions about elections. Yet the free press that is protected by the same Constitutional Amendment guaranteeing a right to speech repeatedly uses it to tarnish election-integrity supporters.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast I heard, we still have the Constitution. It\u2019s hanging by a thread thanks to some of the work some people in this area have done. But we\u2019re going to save that Constitution and we\u2019re going to bring back freedom of speech.
