They\u2019re not even hiding their efforts to sway elections anymore,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BrentBozell\/status\/1564662718212235267\">tweeted<\/a> Media Research Center President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrc.org\/staff\/l-brent-bozell-iii\">Brent Bozell<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/08\/30\/trump-truth-social-google-android-moderation\">reported<\/a> that Google has not yet approved <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/\">Truth Social<\/a>\u2019s Android app for distribution on the Google Play Store. CEO of Truth Social <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@DevinNunes\">Devin Nunes<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PgMg_vlY5pc\">said<\/a> \u201cwhen\u201d former President Donald Trump\u2019s social media app will be available on Android is \u201cup to the Google Play Store.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When reached for comment, a Google spokesperson told MRC Free Speech America:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>On August 19 we notified Truth Social of several violations of standard policies in their current app submission and reiterated that having effective systems for moderating user-generated content is a condition of our terms of service for any app to go live on Google Play.\u00a0 Last week Truth Social wrote back acknowledging our feedback and saying that they are working on addressing these issues.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>When asked for clarification, Google responded further: \u201cTruth Social is not banned from Google Play. In fact, their app is up for preorder right now: <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.truthsocial.android.app&amp;hl=en_US&amp;gl=US\">https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.truthsocial.android.app&#038;hl=en_US&#038;gl=US<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The app is, as of the publishing of this piece, available on the <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/truth-social\/id1586018825\">Apple App Store<\/a> and via <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\">Internet browser<\/a>. However, <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.truthsocial.android.app\">on the Google Play Store<\/a>, you can only \u201cPre-register\u201d at this time.<\/p>\n<p>But Google has a sordid history of bias against the right and of censoring information that goes against the left\u2019s narrative on a wide array of topics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google didn\u2019t acknowledge that former President Donald Trump was ever president. <\/strong>In October 2021, former President Trump was the only U.S. president whose Google about section gave no indication of his presidential office. Every other U.S. president\u2019s short biography either mentioned the presidential office or listed the years of the \u201cpresidential term.\u201d<strong> <\/strong>The platform corrected the bio at least <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/catherine-salgado\/2022\/04\/01\/finally-google-acknowledges-trump-was-president\">135 days<\/a> after MRC Free Speech America <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/catherine-salgado\/2021\/10\/13\/exclusive-trump-rips-new-google-censorship-disgrace\">reported<\/a> on the censorship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Former President Trump blasted Google\u2019s censorship in an exclusive quote to MRC Free Speech America: \u201cIt\u2019s a disgrace to our Country. I got them by surprise in 2016 and they said we\u2019ll never let it happen again. They should be punished.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>An NC State study found that Google marked emails of right-leaning candidates as spam. <\/strong>\u00a0A North Carolina State University (NC State) <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/pdf\/2203.16743.pdf\">study<\/a> found that Gmail <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/brian-bradley\/2022\/05\/20\/cruz-blasts-google-says-it-deflected-senators-concerns-e\">marked<\/a> 59.3 percent more emails from right-leaning candidates as spam compared to left-leaning candidates. \u201cIt appears that the political affiliation of the sender plays [a] role in getting an email marked as spam,\u201d part of the conclusion read. Google <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/brian-bradley\/2022\/05\/20\/cruz-blasts-google-says-it-deflected-senators-concerns-e\">filed<\/a> with the Federal Elections Commission to correct the issue, but Republican politicians appear<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/brian-bradley\/2022\/07\/05\/exclusive-republicans-rip-google-over-spam-email-filter\"> skeptical<\/a>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cIt is difficult to see how the proposed filing with the FEC to conduct a pilot program accomplishes anything beyond delay and distraction from reforming [Google\u2019s] practices to allow for transparent, fair and equal treatment of Republicans and Democrats,\u201d Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/member\/steve-daines\/D000618\">Steve Daines<\/a> told MRC Free Speech America in an e-mail.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The world&#8217;s biggest search engine has repeatedly censored pro-life ads. <\/strong>The platform infamously removed two Live Action ads in Sept 2021, according to the organization\u2019s founder <a href=\"https:\/\/www.liveaction.org\/media\/meet-lila-rose\/\">Lila Rose<\/a>. \u201cBREAKING: At the request of abortion activists,<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Google\"> @Google<\/a> has just BANNED all of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LiveAction\">@LiveAction<\/a>&#8216;s pro-life ads, including those promoting the Abortion Pill Reversal treatment, a resource that has saved 2500 children to date,\u201d she tweeted. Rose also included a screenshot that flagged the ads for \u201cmedical misinformation\u201d and \u201crestricted medical content.\u201d The company reportedly also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/catherine-salgado\/2021\/09\/21\/sen-josh-hawley-blasts-google-letter-political-bias\">censored<\/a> ads from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chooselifemarketing.com\/\">Choose Life Marketing<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/alexander-hall\/2021\/02\/23\/kneecapped-lifesitenews-says-it-has-been-financially\">Life Site News<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google blocked Dr. Vladimir Zelenko from sharing documents on alternative COVID-19 treatments. <\/strong>Google Docs <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/dan-gainor\/2021\/06\/01\/google-docs-censors-sharing-covid-19-doctor-linked-trump\">restricted<\/a> the late <a href=\"https:\/\/vladimirzelenkomd.com\/\">Dr. Vladimir Zelenko<\/a>, the first doctor to advocate for alternative COVID-19 treatments, from sharing six different documents. Users received a terms of service note when the doctor tried to share the documents with them. \u201cWe&#8217;re sorry. You can&#8217;t access this item because it is in violation of our<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/google-d-s\/intl\/en\/terms.html\"> Terms of Service<\/a>,\u201d went the Google alert. It was unclear what rule was broken. The six documents that Google censored included an op-ed Zelenko wrote and a letter he sent to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo about the pandemic. The platform made similar moves against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/alexander-hall\/2021\/04\/26\/insane-google-blocks-access-doc-showing-vaccine-side\">documentation<\/a> of COVID-19 vaccine side effects.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Google partnered with Axios to track user searches of political topics in each congressional district.\u00a0 <\/strong>Last November, Axios <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2021\/11\/09\/google-trends-midterms-inflation-abortion-critical-race-theory?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=newsletter_axiosam&amp;stream=top\">announced<\/a> an election-related data analysis project with Google Trends. \u201cIn a first-of-its-kind project we&#8217;re unveiling today, one year out from the 2022 midterm elections, Axios and Google Trends will be tracking which political issues voters are searching for in each congressional district over the course of the next year.\u201d Psychologist and researcher <a href=\"https:\/\/drrobertepstein.com\/index.php\/biography\">Dr. Robert Epstein<\/a>, PhD <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/catherine-salgado\/2021\/11\/11\/exclusive-google-researcher-warns-dangers-new-axios\">told<\/a> MRC Free Speech America just how dangerous it is for Google to have access to such specific voter information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cAmong other things, this allows Google to keep a close eye on voters who are undecided and whose opinions can still be changed,\u201d he said. \u201cThe detailed information they have about each and every one of us allows them to effectively shift opinions with biased search results, search suggestions, answer boxes, answers on personal assistants (Google Home and the Google Assistant on Android phones), YouTube videos, targeted messages, and more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t the first time Google has gone after a pro-free speech platform. First, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbusters.org\/blogs\/free-speech\/alexander-hall\/2021\/01\/09\/nuked-apple-amazon-and-google-purge-free-speech-site\">the left went after social media startup Parler<\/a>, purging the platform from the Internet following the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot.
