They <a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-oversight.house.gov\/release\/comer-committee-republicans-seek-clarification-on-naras-involvement-in-fbis-mar-a-lago-raid\/\">claimed<\/a> the federal agency \u201cpotentially misrepresented\u201d its coordination with the Justice Department in the previous response.<\/p>\n<p>Wall\u2019s earlier letter (<a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-oversight.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Wall-Response-to-08-10-2022-Comer-Letter_Signed-.pdf\">pdf<\/a>), dated Aug. 16, said the Justice Department has been \u201cexclusively responsible\u201d for the investigation into the classified documents since the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) referred the matter to the department in January 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNARA has not been involved in the DOJ investigation or any searches that it has conducted. Accordingly, NARA is unable to provide a briefing or any documents in response to your letter,\u201d Wall told Comer and Mike Turner (R-Ohio) in the letter.<\/p>\n<p>However, Wall informed Evan Corcoran, a lawyer for Trump, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-administration-asked-national-archives-to-let-fbi-access-boxes-from-mar-a-lago-letter_4682755.html\">a May letter<\/a> that President Joe Biden deferred to her on Trump\u2019s claim of executive privilege, according to the letter first disclosed on Aug. 22. The claim was ultimately rejected by the archivist.<\/p>\n<p>The newly disclosed letter shows \u201crobust negotiations\u201d between the NARA and Trump\u2019s attorney, the Republicans said in the Aug. 30 letter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is puzzling that you and your staff would blatantly deny the existence of such responsive documents or communications to Congress,\u201d the lawmakers said. \u201cIt is implausible that there would be no internal communications by NARA employees regarding the subject matter of the letter to Mr. Corcoran, as your letter to us would indicate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe request that you revisit your prior communications to Oversight Republicans and amend your prior statements as necessary,\u201d they continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committee on Oversight and<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>House oversight GOP figures cast doubt on the accuracy of the National Archives\u2019 previous letter on its role in a raid of former President Donald Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago residence in light of recent reports.
