Ron DeSantis said on Aug. 31 that he \u201chas waited long enough\u201d and is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flgov.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/FILE_3187.pdf\">filing <\/a>suit against\u00a0the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to \u201cput an end to\u201d delays.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis told a crowd in Lakeland that he found a 20-year-old law that would allow the states to apply to Health and Human Services to purchase drugs from Canada.<\/p>\n<p>After a meeting with then-president Donald Trump, it was agreed that he could do this, and submitted all the necessary paperwork to the FDA where it has sat since the \u201clater part of 2020,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are the same drugs that you purchase here,\u201d DeSantis said with his voice ringing off the walls of the empty warehouse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been sitting at the FDA for months and months and months\u2014and no action. We\u2019re asking a federal judge to order the FDA to put an end to that delay and to approve Florida\u2019s program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bob Lavallee was present at the news conference and told the governor that he and his wife are facing a decision to either \u201cbuy food or medicine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Both need medications to survive.<\/p>\n<p>Bob, who has problems with what he called \u201cword stuff\u201d due to a stroke he suffered in 2015, said he was a walking miracle due in part to a drug he is on now called Eliquis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a life-saving medicine,\u201d he told the governor with his voice cracking, overcome with emotion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo \u2026 this next month in September, we\u2019re going to have to decide either it\u2019s going to be medicine or food.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lavallee said his medicine is $500 out of his pocket for a 90-day supply and his wife\u2019s medicine is $300 for her 90-day<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PUNTA GORDA, Fla.\u2014For 630 days a warehouse in Lakeland has sat vacant\u2014waiting on a shipment of drugs from Canada that never came.
