Ryan did not immediately respond to requests for comment for this story.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cWe\u2019re keeping the message very much around economics,\u201d Ryan said during the virtual March meeting. \u201cYou know, staying away from the culture wars, which don\u2019t serve us very well in Ohio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cYou keep mentioning that you\u2019re not about the culture wars and you know you\u2019re talking about these bread-and-butter issues for people,\u201d a woman on the call asked him. \u201cBut as a young woman of reproductive age, as someone who identifies as queer and who has a lot of friends in the queer community, I just want to make sure, like, will you be the advocate that we need on abortion rights, the advocate that we need on trans people\u2019s human dignity and their human rights and on gay rights?\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Ryan responded by assuring the woman that he gave a floor speech mere days before on the <a href=\"https:\/\/timryan.house.gov\/media\/press-releases\/congressman-tim-ryan-votes-defend-womens-reproductive-health-freedoms\">Women\u2019s Health Protection Act<\/a>, noting that he heavily supported and voted for the legislation (which would codify a right to an abortion nationwide).<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cI\u2019ve been very vocal on these other issues that you mentioned,\u201d he continued. \u201cSo you can count on me to be in the fight \u2026 I\u2019m progressive. I\u2019m going to vote that way. I\u2019m going to support you in every way, shape, or form \u2026 You can count on me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The comments do not jive well with the Democratic senatorial candidate\u2019s campaign messaging. In one of his first TV ads during the general election, Ryan warned the audience as he played darts: \u201cYou want culture wars? I\u2019m not your guy. You want a fighter for Ohio? I\u2019m all in.\u201d<\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Polls show Republican candidate JD Vance and Ryan are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/jd-vance-leads-ryan-ohio-senate-poll-dewine-whaley-2022-8\">neck and neck<\/a> heading into the midterms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn TV screens all across Ohio, Tim Ryan plays the part of a moderate Democrat in his campaign commercials,\u201d Vance told The Daily Wire. \u201cIn real life, Tim Ryan promises far-left liberals behind closed doors that he\u2019ll be a fighter for the radical woke agenda that\u2019s destroying the fabric of our society. And make no mistake, he has delivered on those promises in the form of his destructive voting record.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has voted for taxpayer-funded late-term abortion, for transgender students to compete in girls\u2019 sports, and he approved tens of millions in funding for programs to indoctrinate America\u2019s youth with toxic, racist propaganda,\u201d the Republican candidate added. \u201cTim Ryan claims he takes no part in the culture wars, but his record proves that he is the face of woke, radical far-left extremism in Ohio.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ryan\u2019s past voting record also indicates that he votes with some of the most radical members of the Democratic Party on culture war legislation.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to his vote for the most pro-abortion legislation the House of Representatives has ever seen, he\u2019s also voted for the Equality Act, legislation that would require that biological males who identify as transgender women be allowed to compete in girls sports.<\/p>\n<p>Ryan voted for President Joe Biden\u2019s \u201cAmerican Rescue Plan\u201d in 2021, legislation that funneled\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/15m-american-rescue-plan-funds-went-anti-racism-social-activism-programs-kids?intcmp=tw_fnc\">millions<\/a> into programs teaching children about \u201cracial equity,\u201d anti-racist\u201d education, and \u201csocial activism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2002, Ryan also voted as an Ohio state senator against a bill that would expand the state\u2019s sex offender registry to include sex offenders who were not yet 18.
