(AP Photo\/Ng Han Guan, File)<br \/>\n               <\/figcaption><div class=\"Figure-credit\" itemprop=\"author\">\n                Ng Han Guan\/AP\n               <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/figure><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Ratcliffe said that \u201cthe intelligence showed a lot more than I\u2019m allowed to still talk about publicly,\u201d but he added: \u201cThere is much that has not been declassified about the origins of COVID-19 because it might jeopardize our ability to, you know, determine other information about the Chinese Communist Party \u2014 what they may plan to do with Taiwan and things like that.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The Office of the Director of National Intelligence under President Joe Biden released an assessment last summer stating that <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/us-intel-agency-assess-moderate-confidence-covid-emerged-wuhan-lab\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one U.S. intelligence agency assessed with \u201cmoderate confidence\u201d<\/a> that COVID-19 <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense-national-security\/intelligence-community-releases-spy-agencys-case-for-wuhan-lab-leak-covid-19-hypothesis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most likely emerged from a lab in Wuhan<\/a>, while four U.S. spy agencies and the National Intelligence Council believed with \u201clow confidence\u201d that COVID-19 most likely had a natural origin. <\/p>\n<p>The <i>New York Times<\/i> <u><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/10\/29\/us\/politics\/coronavirus-origin-intelligence-report.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">identified<\/a><\/u> the FBI as the agency that \u201cbacks the lab leak theory\u201d in October. <\/p>\n<p>China has repeatedly <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/china-lashes-out-gop-report-wuhan-lab-us-military-conspiracy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">tried to shift blame for COVID-19 to the U.S. military<\/a>, which the United States has condemned as baseless. <\/p>\n<p>Dr. Peter Ben Embarek, the head of the visiting World Health Organization team in Wuhan, announced at a press conference in February 2021 that a jump from an animal to another animal to humans was the most likely, but he claimed an accidental release from a Wuhan lab was \u201cextremely unlikely\u201d and <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/trump-intelligence-shi-china-lab-wuhan-coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suggested there was no need to investigate that option further.<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus admitted in July 2021 that there was a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/who-chief-tedros-condemns-premature-push-dismiss-lab-leak-hypothesis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;premature push&#8221;
