BARDA in July placed orders to fill, finish, and deliver 5 million vials of Jynneos from\u00a0U.S. government-owned bulk vaccine stored in Denmark, the HHS noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn that contract, Bavarian Nordic agreed to complete a technology transfer that would allow a U.S.-based contract manufacturer to fill and finish 2.5 million vials of JYNNEOS,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the HHS, the $11 million funding will allow GRAM to \u201cpurchase\u00a0additional equipment necessary for JYNNEOS production and recruit and train additional staff to operate the line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith BARDA\u2019s support, vaccine production at the facility is expected to be underway later this year, months ahead of the 9-month schedule typical for this type of work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bob Fenton, the White House monkeypox response coordinator,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2022\/08\/26\/press-briefing-by-white-house-monkeypox-response-team-and-public-health-officials-3\/\">said<\/a>\u00a0on Aug. 26 that the deal is \u201can important step in building our domestic capacity and in providing domestic jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HHS Secretary\u00a0Xavier Becerra\u00a0said the agreement \u201csolidifies a domestic manufacturing capability that will bring us more vaccine sooner to end this outbreak.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rochelle Walensky, the director of the\u00a0Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said in a White House\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/press-briefings\/2022\/08\/26\/press-briefing-by-white-house-monkeypox-response-team-and-public-health-officials-3\/\">briefing<\/a>\u00a0on Aug. 26 that<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Biden administration announced on Monday it will provide about $11 million to support the production of the Jynneos smallpox vaccine that is being used against monkeypox in the ongoing outbreak.
