Just before Russia invaded Ukraine, it supplied a third of Germany&#8217;s oil, around half its coal imports, and more than half its gas.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2018,\u00a0then-U.S. president Donald Trump blasted Germany&#8217;s energy imports at a NATO summit, <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/national-security\/trump-germany-totally-controlled-russia\/\">saying<\/a>\u00a0Germany was &#8220;totally controlled by Russia.&#8221; German officials <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/marcusgilmer\/status\/1044604107997237249\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">laughed<\/a>\u00a0at the claim.<\/p>\n<p>Ofgem CEO Jonathan Brearley said in a press release that &#8220;the\u00a0price of energy has reached record levels driven by an aggressive economic act by the Russian state.
