The <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.617854\/gov.uscourts.flsd.617854.98.0_1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">document<\/a> outlining the justifications to redact the redactions was itself also nearly entirely redacted. <\/p>\n<p>The few sentences made public in the affidavit, however, show the FBI was motivated to comb through Trump\u2019s 128-room living quarters because of a CBS News article that a truck was present at Mar-a-Lago in the final days of his presidency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBoxes Containing Documents Were Transported from the White House to Mar-a-Lago,\u201d read a subject head. \u201cAccording to a CBS Miami article titled \u2018Moving Trucks Spotted At Mar-a-Lago,\u2019 published Monday, January 18, 2021, at least two moving trucks were observed at the PREMISES on January 18, 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The affidavit also showcased the raid as a dramatic escalation of federal law enforcement targeting political opponents driven by a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/15\/from-bureaucrat-hack-to-grand-jury-witch-hunt-the-dojs-trump-raid-smells-like-spygate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">disgruntled employee<\/a> at the National Archives. <\/p>\n<p>The search, ultimately culminating in the confiscation of 15 boxes from Mar-a-Lago, was demanded by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) to reclaim presidential documents under government possession. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>The NARA referral stated that according to NARA\u2019s White House Liason Division Director, a preliminary review of the FIFTEEN BOXES indicated that they contained \u2018newspapers, magazines, printed news articles, photos, miscellaneous print-outs, notes, presidential correspondence, personal and post-presidential records, and \u2018a lot of classified records.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Following criticism of the raid earlier this month, Attorney General Merrick Garland held a press conference where the nation\u2019s chief law enforcement official admitted to personally signing off on the raid of the president whose inauguration nullified Garland\u2019s Supreme Court nomination in 2017. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst, I personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter,\u201d Garland said, adding that the warrant was \u201cnarrowly scope[d].\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe department does not take such a decision lightly. Where possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search, and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken,\u201d Garland added.<\/p>\n<p>Examination of the search warrant, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/12\/breaking-fbi-raid-warrant-demanded-seizure-of-literally-any-record-trump-ever-saw-during-4-year-presidential-term\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shows<\/a> the roughly 30 plainclothes agents were granted authority to seize any and all documents Trump came in contact with as president. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
