It\u2019s pretty damn cool that I\u2019m singing with one of the most classic men of our time,\u201d Spears wrote in a tweet this week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m kinda overwhelmed \u2026 it\u2019s a big deal to me !!!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In November, Spears, who shot to fame as a teenager with her 1998 chart-topping debut \u201c\u2026 Baby One More Time\u201d, was freed from a legal conservatorship that had controlled her personal life and finances for 13 years.<\/p>\n<p>Her father Jamie Spears, who had sought the court-imposed arrangement in 2008, was removed as conservator in September. He has said his only goal was to help his daughter rehabilitate her career after she suffered a mental health breakdown in 2007 and that he always acted in her best interest.<\/p>\n<p>In December, Spears signalled she was not yet ready to return to making music. Her last studio album was 2016\u2019s \u201cGlory\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>A press release for \u201cHold Me Closer\u201d, which also has elements of Elton John\u2019s songs \u201cThe One\u201d\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cDon\u2019t Go Breaking My Heart\u201d, said the two singers first met in 2014. A year later, Spears tweeted her love for \u201cTiny Dancer\u201d, igniting the idea of a collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter hearing the first cut of the single earlier this summer, Elton John knew that Britney\u2019s instantly recognizable vocals were the perfect touch to bring the song to life,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this week, John previewed the song at a restaurant in the south of France, singing along to the delight of diners.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am absolutely thrilled to have had the chance to\u00a0work with Britney Spears,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe truly is an icon, one of the all-time great\u00a0pop stars and she sounds amazing on this record.
