Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) followed Biden, bringing over $17.1 million and $11.6 million each respectively from that industry. Both lawmakers have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mkt_app\/democrats-have-ambitious-plans-for-education-in-near-future_3971682.html\">lead efforts<\/a> to have the president use his existing authority to cancel student debt.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 24, Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/biden-admin-to-cancel-10000-of-student-loan-debt-for-millions-despite-inflation-concerns_4685966.html\">announced<\/a> he will forgive up to $10,000 in federal student loan debt for individual borrowers earning less than $125,000 per year, or $20,000 for Pell Grant recipients meeting the same income standards.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic supporters hailed the unprecedented debt relief action, with Warren <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenWarren\/status\/1562464759294767111?s=20&amp;t=Hy1UNdtOTWn-JibDuLetqQ\">describing<\/a> it as one of the biggest acts of consumer debt relief in American history.<\/p>\n<p>Other progressive lawmakers, such as Sanders, welcomed Biden\u2019s largest debt cancellation per individual so far but <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/berniesanders\/status\/1562523889820848130?s=21&amp;t=MK5Xt7D8owTf8CqVE8FiDA\">said<\/a> it doesn\u2019t go far enough.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/img.theepochtimes.com\/assets\/uploads\/2022\/08\/25\/GettyImages-1163778082-1200x800.jpg\"><\/a> Sen. (Win McNamee\/Getty Images) <\/p>\n<p>Republicans, meanwhile, criticized the action as being \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/astonishingly-unfair-mcconnell-bashes-bidens-student-loan-relief-calling-it-socialism_4687641.html\">unfair<\/a>\u201d for shifting the burden to tax-payers who didn\u2019t go to college or those who made sacrifices to pay off their student loans.<\/p>\n<p>Rep.
