{"id":1622334,"date":"2022-08-26T07:17:43","date_gmt":"2022-08-26T11:17:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/?p=1622334"},"modified":"2022-08-26T07:18:01","modified_gmt":"2022-08-26T11:18:01","slug":"uber-virtue-signals-about-abortion-while-downplaying-sexual-assault-allegations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/uber-virtue-signals-about-abortion-while-downplaying-sexual-assault-allegations\/","title":{"rendered":"Uber Virtue-Signals About Abortion While Downplaying Sexual Assault Allegations"},"content":{"rendered":"<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\"><div class=\"mashsb-box\"><div class=\"mashsb-count mash-medium\" style=\"float:left\"><div class=\"counts mashsbcount\">18<\/div><span class=\"mashsb-sharetext\">SHARES<\/span><\/div><div class=\"mashsb-buttons\"><a class=\"mashicon-facebook mash-medium mash-nomargin mashsb-noshadow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.conservativenewsdaily.net%2Fbreaking-news%2Fuber-virtue-signals-about-abortion-while-downplaying-sexual-assault-allegations%2F\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"icon\"><\/span><span class=\"text\">Facebook<\/span><\/a><a class=\"mashicon-twitter mash-medium mash-nomargin mashsb-noshadow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?text=&amp;url=https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/?p=1622334&amp;via=ConservNewsDly\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"icon\"><\/span><span class=\"text\">Twitter<\/span><\/a><a class=\"mashicon-subscribe mash-medium mash-nomargin mashsb-noshadow\" href=\"#\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"icon\"><\/span><span class=\"text\">Subscribe<\/span><\/a><div class=\"onoffswitch2 mash-medium mashsb-noshadow\" style=\"display:none\"><\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n                <div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div><\/aside>\n            <!-- Share buttons by mashshare.net - Version: 4.0.47--><p>In post-<em>Roe<\/em> America, no corporation will miss a chance to virtue-signal about how committed they are to so-called \u201cwomen\u2019s rights\u201d \u2014 even if they trample said rights in their everyday business practices.<\/p>\n<p>Case-in-point: Uber, after promising to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/livecoverage\/supreme-court-decision-roe-v-wade-6-24-2022\/card\/uber-lyft-others-to-support-employees-traveling-out-of-state-for-abortion-vtYQJSQ5KFZppFnOXQGF\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cover employee travel expenses for out-of-state abortions<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/30\/lyft-will-cover-legal-fees-for-drivers-sued-under-oklahoma-abortion-law.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the legal fees of drivers sued under Texas and Oklahoma\u2019s abortion laws<\/a>, is downplaying a lawsuit from many women who have been sexually assaulted by their Uber drivers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/07\/13\/uber-sued-by-more-than-500-women-over-sexual-assault-claims.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">complaint<\/a>, female passengers in multiple states \u201cwere kidnapped, sexually assaulted, sexually battered, raped, falsely imprisoned, stalked, harassed, or otherwise attacked\u201d by Uber drivers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs early as 2014, Uber became aware that its drivers were sexually assaulting and raping female passengers; nevertheless, in the eight years since, sexual predators driving for Uber have continued to attack passengers, including the plaintiffs whose claims were alleged in today\u2019s action,\u201d the firm Slater Slater Schulman said of the lawsuit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MJRK5k3OfF8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">new ad campaign<\/a>\u00a0launched by conservative nonprofit Consumers\u2019 Research reported, there have been 998 reported sexual assault incidents, including 141 alleged rapes. Furthermore, according to Uber\u2019s most recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/newsroom\/2022-us-safety-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">safety report<\/a> from 2019-2020, the company \u201creceived 3,824 reports across the five most severe categories of sexual assault and misconduct,\u201d which <a href=\"https:\/\/uber.app.box.com\/s\/vkx4zgwy6sxx2t2618520xt35rix022h?uclick_id=0eba6f76-ffa2-4e08-b338-af5d905e364e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">span<\/a> from \u201cNon-consensual kissing of a non-sexual body part\u201d to rape.<\/p>\n<p>Uber has not taken serious action against these issues, besides screening drivers, saying the company is not \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/news.bloomberglaw.com\/daily-labor-report\/uber-lyft-talk-responsibility-on-assaults-but-deny-in-court\">responsible<\/a>\u201d for these crimes. Apparently, Uber hopes its abortion activism will be enough to gloss over these incidents and put the company in the good graces of women everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>This is incredibly condescending, and as Will Hild, executive director of Consumers\u2019 Research,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WillHild\/status\/1562772953343094784\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">put it<\/a>, \u201cassuming that paying for abortion expenses is somehow going to make it all better is manipulative and extremely misguided.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And therein lies the true motivation behind Uber\u2019s woke virtue-signaling and unwillingness to address sexual assault allegations: the bottom line.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Just as it\u2019s much <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/24\/woke-corporate-shows-contempt-for-women-by-subsidizing-abortions-and-cutting-maternity-leave\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">easier<\/a> for companies to pay for out-of-state abortions than to support working mothers, it\u2019s also easier for them to virtue-signal about women\u2019s rights than to ensure the safety of their female customers.<\/p>\n<p>If companies like Uber are actively\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-surprising-benefit-some-companies-are-taking-awayparental-leave-11661125605?mod=business_lead_pos4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">cutting back<\/a>\u00a0on paid maternity leave, adopting <a href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2021\/05\/to-retain-women-u-s-companies-need-better-childcare-policies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">policies<\/a> to keep women childless, and not covering up sexual assault allegations, they must not be interested in the rights of women at all. They are \u2014 as the culture is \u2014 anti-woman, anti-motherhood, and increasingly anti-anything that threatens the bottom line.<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Victoria Marshall is a staff writer at The Federalist.
