The airstrikes were in response to rocket attacks on American bases in Syria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">But wait, I thought we pulled our troops from Syria? I wasn\u2019t the only one surprised to hear we were still in Syria.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Why are our troops in Syria<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Haupt91 (@Haupt_91) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Haupt_91\/status\/1562571233954131968?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">These rocket attacks and airstrikes come at an interesting time. The Biden administration attempts to seal the new Iran nuclear deal despite Republican and Israeli apprehension of the agreement. Perhaps it\u2019s because of groups like IRGC that have some on edge about signing any contract with the burgeoning nuclear power.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/new-gop-report-biden-misled-public-on-afghanistan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New GOP Report: Biden Misled Public on Afghanistan<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">A Delayed Response<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The original rocket attacks on the American bases in Syria happened on August 15th. President Biden gave the order to retaliate this week. Why the delayed response?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/08\/25\/us-service-members-suffer-minor-injuries-in-syria-rocket-attacks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Colin Kahl<\/a> provided this non-answer:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cPart of it\u2019s an accumulation, we don\u2019t want Iran to draw the wrong conclusion that they can continue just doing this and get away with it. But part of it was also the nature of the attacks on the 15th. The fact that they were coordinated against two U.S. facilities at the same time. That\u2019s what I thought too. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/08\/25\/us-service-members-suffer-minor-injuries-in-syria-rocket-attacks.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mr. Kahl goes on<\/a> to say:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cI think our concern was that this might be an indication that Iran intends to do more of this and we wanted to disabuse them of any sense that that was a good idea.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">While I\u2019m always a fan of the use of the word disabuse, I fear that Mr. Kahl and the Biden administration might be overly optimistic about what deters Iran. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Before we dive into why on earth we would want to get into a nuclear deal with Iran when we know they are facilitating IRGC attacks, let\u2019s first talk about these two American bases in Syria.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Confirmed<\/p>\n<p>At least 2 rockets fell in the vicinity of Green Village and 2 rounds of rockets impacting inside perimeter of Conoco, both located in Northern Syria hosting US troops.<br \/>It comes after the US airstrikes last night on positions \u201caffiliated with IRGC\u201d in Deir Ezzur, Syria<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nafiseh Kohnavard (@nafisehkBBC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nafisehkBBC\/status\/1562489649494315008?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/new-us-vs-china-war-game-shows-america-would-suffer-major-losses\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New US vs. China War Game Shows America Would Suffer Major Losses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Do Elections Matter At This Point?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">I seem to remember during the dark times of mean tweets, President Donald Trump had decided to withdraw American forces from Syria. This decision was the catalyst for former Secretary of Defense James Mattis resigning from his post.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Yet here we are today, with approximately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/08\/23\/politics\/syria-airstrikes-iranian-backed-groups-biden\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">900 American troops<\/a> stationed in Syria. How did that happen?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Some in D.C. believed they knew better than the former Commander-in-Chief. For example, <a href=\"https:\/\/taskandpurpose.com\/news\/us-troop-levels-syria-jeffrey-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">former diplomat Jim Jeffrey<\/a> said in an interview regarding the troop withdrawal:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWe were always playing shell games to not make clear to our leadership how many troops we had there.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He goes on to say there; \u201cwas never a Syria withdrawal.\u201d A former Obama State Department member <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/opinion\/unelected-federal-officials-have-been-lying-about-us-troop-levels-in-syria\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim Sciuttio<\/a> confirms this account in an interview, stating:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cSenior DOD officials told me how they fooled Trump into leaving troops on the ground. If you look at his tweets, they were definitive about leaving. And then we didn\u2019t leave. And now we haven\u2019t left. We\u2019re still there, and that\u2019s a good thing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">So let\u2019s just let that sink in for a minute. But, apparently, the two are not linked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/08\/24\/us\/politics\/us-airstrike-syria-iran.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mr. Kahl says<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cWhat the strikes last night illustrated is that our commitment to push back against Iran\u2019s support for terrorism, militancy and the threats they engage in against our people in the region or elsewhere are not linked to wherever we end up on the nuclear deal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">So it appears that the Biden administration is still planning to push forward with the restart of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) nuclear deal that would release economic sanctions on Iran in exchange for their promise not to make a nuclear bomb. Besides the Republicans in D.C., there is another party not enthused by this deal moving forward: Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Sure, Israel doesn&#8217;t &#8220;do anything for America.&#8221; It only exposed the secret nuclear warehouse and archive that Iran hid under the nose of the JCPOA&#8217;s &#8220;inspection regime.&#8221; And new inspections will be worse. But he thinks a deal is good by virtue of it being called a deal. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Po6Us1fVQQ\">https:\/\/t.co\/Po6Us1fVQQ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Abe Greenwald (@AbeGreenwald) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AbeGreenwald\/status\/1562547215326777344?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 24, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid asserts that the Iranian government will use the money released if this deal goes through for nefarious purposes. <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/wireStory\/israels-premier-urges-west-reject-iran-nuclear-deal-88788941\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prime Minister Lapid<\/a> states:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThis money will fund the Revolutionary Guard. It will fund more attacks on American bases in the Middle East. It will be used to strengthen Hezbollah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">He\u2019s not wrong, as illustrated by the latest attacks by the IRGC. However, there is some real danger of Iran building a nuclear weapon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Last year the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/08\/18\/a-renewed-iran-nuclear-deal-may-be-closer-than-ever-but-problems-remain.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Atomic Energy Agency chief Rafael Grossi<\/a> said Iran\u2019s progress towards enriching uranium is only seen in \u201ccountries making bombs reaching this level.\u201d So it looks like Iran has us stuck between a rock and a hard place.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Lose\/Win Situation<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">It seems to me that we\u2019ve got ourselves a lose\/win situation with Iran. No matter what, we seem to lose. Either we sign into a nuclear deal with Iran and continue to face attacks from Iran via proxies, or we don\u2019t, and Iran continues to attack us via proxies and enrich uranium.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Iran wins regardless. They either continue to enrich uranium and build a nuclear bomb, or they receive some economic reprieve and continue to attack us via proxies.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">One only needs to look at the recent attacks to see that Iran is not planning to back down.
