They decried the movie for short-changing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2013\/02\/how-hollywood-de-christianized-johnny-cash-lee-habeeb\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">critical element of Cash\u2019s life<\/a>.\u00a0The singer\u2019s faith deserved a Hollywood close-up, too.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly a quarter of the songs [Cash] wrote were in some way about his faith or the Bible, and many others were influenced by his Christian worldview.<\/p>\n<p>But there wasn\u2019t a single Gospel song on the Walk the Line soundtrack. Somehow, the screenwriters left out that important dimension of his musical catalogue. And there wasn\u2019t a single mention of the greatest love of Cash\u2019s life: Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p>That changes come December.<\/p>\n<p>Fathom Events, Kingdom Story Company, WTA Media, and Harvest Ministries with Greg Laurie have partnered to release\u00a0\u201cJohnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The documentary debuts December 5, 6 and 7 via Fathom Events. The film\u2019s creative team wants to restore the faith journey to Cash\u2019s legacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dJohnny Cash is an American icon who undoubtedly shaped the musical landscape. Behind the fame is the true story of a man who was haunted by his own inner demons, and through facing them, ultimately found an unshakable faith in God,\u201d said producer Jon Erwin of \u201cI Can Only Imagine\u201d fame said in a press statement.<\/p>\n<p>The film arrives with a potent endorsement \u2013 from the only child of Cash and June Carter Cash.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think of all the documentaries made about my dad, he\u2019d be most excited about this one,\u201d John Carter Cash said in a statement about the film.<\/p>\n<p>The documentary taps more than 100 tapes, originally made for Cash\u2019s autobiography, that haven\u2019t been heard publicly before.<\/p>\n<p>The film features a crush of important voices, including John Carter Cash, Sheryl Crow, Tim McGraw, Marty Stuart, Wynonna Judd, Jimmie Allen, Alice Cooper, Franklin Graham and Joanne Cash Yates.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s more on \u00a0\u201cJohnny Cash: The Redemption of an American Icon\u201d\u00a0from Fathom Events:<\/p>\n<p><em>Recounting a critical period in Cash\u2019s life and career, the documentary takes place during the time of his most famous album \u201cMan In Black\u201d while the legend was stuck in a cycle of depression and drug addiction. The road to redemption for the iconic country star and his return to an \u201cunshakeable faith\u201d that would influence some of his most famous songs like \u201cThe Man Comes Around,\u201d are at the core focus of the film.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Laurie, who previously gave us the faith-based 2017 documentary \u201cSteve McQueen: American Icon,\u201d nailed a key contradiction to the music legend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho could be friends with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Billy Graham all at the same time?
