The state\u2019s move will likely affect the rest of the country since it sits as the largest automaker in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is monumental,\u201d CARB member Daniel Sperling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/08\/25\/us\/california-ban-new-gas-cars-vote\/index.html\">told<\/a> CNN. \u201cThis is the most important thing that CARB has done in the last 30 years. It\u2019s important not just for California, but it\u2019s important for the country and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ban, which becomes one of the first of its kind in the world, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-proposes-ban-on-sale-of-new-gas-powered-vehicles-by-2035\">proposed<\/a> by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in April to achieve Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s goal of reducing emissions by eliminating the sale of new gas cars by 2035.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe climate crisis is solvable if we focus on the big, bold steps necessary to stem the tide of carbon pollution,\u201d Newsom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/08\/24\/climate\/california-gas-cars-emissions.html\">said<\/a> in a statement to The New York Times.<\/p>\n<p>California\u2019s plan to eliminate the sale of gas-powered vehicles by the middle of the next decade also carries with it benchmarks to hit along the way. Under the plan, California will require 35% of new vehicles sold to produce zero emissions by 2026, jumping to 68% of new cars by 2030 before finally hitting 100% of new cars in 2035. Used cars will not be affected by the plan.<\/p>\n<p>Experts also look to the ban to accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, a desire expressed by President Joe Biden in an executive order last year that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/08\/05\/climate\/biden-tailpipe-emissions-electric-vehicles.html\">encouraged<\/a> the government to push for half of all vehicles sold in the U.S. by 2030 to be electric. California\u2019s ban also comes a week after Biden signed the largest climate spending package in U.S. history.<\/p>\n<p>Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/08\/16\/remarks-by-president-biden-at-signing-of-h-r-5376-the-inflation-reduction-act-of-2022\/\">touted<\/a> the $370 billion dollar climate spending set forth in the Democrats\u2019 \u201cInflation Reduction Act\u201d as a way to incentivize Americans to buy electric vehicles. Biden said the act will give \u201cconsumers a tax credit to buy electric vehicles or fuel cell vehicles, new or used.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmerican auto companies, along with American labor, are committing their treasure and their talent \u2014 billions of dollars in investment \u2014 to make electric vehicles and battery and electric charging stations all across America, made in America,\u201d the president added at the bill\u2019s signing.<\/p>\n<p>California is also not the only state working toward the end of gas-powered vehicles, The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-proposes-ban-on-sale-of-new-gas-powered-vehicles-by-2035\">reported<\/a>.
