On Monday, all House Democrats cosponsored a bill known as H.R.1, or the For the People Act of 2021.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseDemocrats?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@HouseDemocrats<\/a> are in full support of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/HR1?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#HR1<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/ForThePeople?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#ForThePeople<\/a> Act, a sweeping package of transformational democracy reforms! Democrats (@HouseAdm_Dems) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HouseAdm_Dems\/status\/1363899952053825536?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 22, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>New reports have shown Republicans fear the bill would put too much power into the hands of the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>According to the legislation, Democrats are proposing Congress have ultimate supervisory power over federal elections, rather than leaving it up to individual states. As One America\u2019s Pearson Sharp reported earlier this month, this could lead to more ballot harvesting and more risk for election fraud.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, under Article I of the U.S. Constitution, individual states are given control over how they manage our elections,\u201d Sharp stated. \u201cDemocrats are ready to tear up the Constitution however, and the bill begins by stating Congress now has ultimate supervisory power over federal elections. This bill is the death of democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GOP also speculated this bill is a strategic political move to grant Washington D.C. statehood and ensure two more Senate seats for the Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>The bill\u2019s goal is to make voting more accessible to Americans, expand early voting and make absentee voting easier. This means states would no longer require voters to show identification when casting a ballot.
