The inspector general\u2019s office conducted an investigation in response to a complaint from the group in June 2021 over Culver\u2019s supposed conduct serving as deputy director of policy and programs. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurrently the Bureau of Land Management\u2019s (BLM) #2, Ms. Culver was delegated the authority of the BLM Director while the current director, Tracy Stone-Manning, awaited Senate confirmation,\u201d the group wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/protectpublicstrust.org\/press-releases\/doi-inspector-general-top-blm-official-violated-ethics-pledge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a>. \u201cWhile Ms. Culver was the de facto BLM head, PPT filed an ethics complaint alleging she participated in a matter in which her former employer was involved.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The watchdog nonprofit also linked to <a href=\"https:\/\/protectpublicstrust.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/22-2095_Rel_887pgs_Redacted.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">documents<\/a> from a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request pointing to Culver as the culprit. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ethics violation revealed by the investigation triggered by our complaint proves the necessity of ethics oversight,\u201d said PPT Director Michael Chamberlain. \u201cThe IG\u2019s confirmation of a violation by Ms. Culver appears to be another piece of evidence demonstrating the laissez-faire attitude toward ethics under Secretary Haaland\u2019s leadership. It is disappointing that such a large and powerful agency does not seem to have taken to heart the Biden Administration\u2019s pledge to be the most ethical in history.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
