A CBC spokesperson confirmed in an email to Check Your Fact that this is not a genuine article published by the outlet.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A recent report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/2022-06\/Digital_News-Report_2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters Insitute for the Study of Journalism<\/a> found that Candian\u2019s trust in media has reached a seven-year low, with only 42 percent saying they trust \u201cmost news most of the time.\u201d This marks a three percentage point decline from the previous year\u2019s results.<\/p>\n<p>An image shared on Facebook calls this finding into question. It shows what appears to be screen grab of an article from CBC News titled \u201c<span>The media isn\u2019t lying to you, despite what online trolls may say.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the wake of a series of hateful online attacks on journalists, it\u2019s important to remember that the credibility of Canadian journalism is unquestionable,\u201d the subheadline reads.<\/p>\n<p><span>The image is digitally fabricated. The purported article cannot be found on CBC\u2019s verified <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=the%20media%20isn%27t%20lying%20to%20you%20(from%3Acbcnews)&amp;src=typed_query\"><span>social<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100064598657599\/search\/?q=The%20media%20isn%E2%80%99t%20lying%20to%20you%2C%20despite%20what%20online%20trolls%20may%20say\"><span>media<\/span><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/cbcnews\/\"><span>accounts<\/span><\/a><span> or on its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/search?q=the%20media%20isn%27t%20lying%20to%20you%20despite%20what%20online%20trolls%20say&amp;section=news&amp;sortOrder=relevance&amp;media=all\"><span>website<\/span><\/a><span>. Likewise, Check Your Fact found no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=the+media+isn%27t+lying+to+you+despite+what+online+trolls+may+say&amp;sxsrf=ALiCzsbxnrUFOi5zGK58J_GhnzGWuqDnYw:1660751684961&amp;source=lnms&amp;tbm=nws&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjjxfeRns75AhVQkWoFHQ4EBFQQ_AUoAnoECAEQBA&amp;biw=1536&amp;bih=722&amp;dpr=1.25\">credible news reports<\/a> showing such a headline from CBC or any other news outlet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can confirm that CBC did not publish this article,\u201d a spokesperson for CBC told Check Your Fact in an email. \u201cWe are aware of a number of recently posted images of fake stories attributed to CBC News and are working with Social Media providers to flag and remove these false and inflammatory manipulated images.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>The image attributes the article to a writer named <\/span>Guy Quenneville. Although he is a genuine writer for CBC, his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/saskatoon\/author\/guy-quenneville-1.3950762\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">profile<\/a> on CBC News\u2019 website does not show the article. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/07\/11\/fact-check-cbc-article-dutch-farmers-state-of-emergency\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did CBC Publish This Article About The Netherlands Declaring A State Of Emergency?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time a fabricated screenshot of a CBC article about media trust has gone viral.
