According to the guidelines, teachers are permitted to socially transition students to a different &#8220;gender identity&#8221; at school, without their parents&#8217; consent or knowledge.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The parents, who filed the lawsuit anonymously in 2020 against the Montgomery County Board of Education (MCBE), argued that the guidelines violated their right under the 14th amendment &#8220;to direct the care, custody, education, and control of their minor children.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\"><\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>MCBE issued their &#8220;2020-2021 Guidelines for Student Gender Identity,&#8221; which advised schools in their district to develop a &#8220;gender-support plan&#8221; with students using an intake form that, according to the filing, would be kept confidential if the family was not supportive of their child&#8217;s desire to adopt a new &#8220;gender identity.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<figure class=\"kg-card kg-embed-card\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A Maryland federal district court judge ruled that it&#8217;s fine for school boards to have a policy allowing teachers to assign a new name and pronoun to a child without parental notice or consent <br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0m711Ui418\">https:\/\/t.co\/0m711Ui418<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Wesley Yang (@wesyang) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wesyang\/status\/1561539100766720000?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 22, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The plaintiffs argued that the new guidelines interfered with their parental rights \u201cin a pivotal decision\u201d in their children\u2019s lives, which enabled school personnel to allow children \u201cto transition socially to a different gender identity at school\u201d without their consent.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Judge Paul W. Grimm, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, sided with the school district in a ruling on Thursday. &#8220;MCBE certainly has a legitimate interest in providing a safe and supportive environment for all MCPS students, including those who are transgender and gender nonconforming,&#8221; Grimm said in the decision. &#8220;And the Guidelines are certainly rationally related to achieving that result.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>While allowing students to use a different name and <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/la-school-district-shares-video-on-preferred-pronouns-with-links-to-non-binary-biological-males-boudoir-photos\">pronouns<\/a> under the supervision of school personnel may seem harmless, evidence shows that &#8220;social transition&#8221; may dramatically increase the likelihood of gender dysphoria persisting.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>&#8220;There is good reason to believe that social transition is iatrogenic, meaning that &#8216;affirming&#8217; a child socially with his\/her preferred name and pronouns increases the chance that the cross-gender ID will persist and medical interventions will be sought,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LeorSapir\/status\/1561733041403355139?s=20&amp;t=_Qdkh7ewXrpj9YD8UG_dug\">says<\/a> PhD researcher and Manhattan Fellow, <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/debunked-researcher-demolishes-the-transgender-affirm-or-suicide-myth\">Leor Sapir<\/a>, citing a 2019 paper by Dr. Kenneth Zucker <a href=\"https:\/\/acamh.onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/abs\/10.1111\/camh.12330\">published<\/a> in the J<em>ournal of Child Psychiatry and Psychology. <\/em><\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>Zucker compared studies of children with gender dysphoria who were socially transitioned to similar studies where gender dysphoric children were not socially transitioned. Zucker found that socially transitioning children dramatically increased the likelihood that their dysphoria would persist and they would seek biomedical treatments.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section data-v-f313b7e6=\"\">\n<p>The best <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sexologytoday.org\/2016\/01\/do-trans-kids-stay-trans-when-they-grow_99.html\">evidence<\/a> currently indicates that roughly 60\u201390 percent of children who identify as transgender who do not socially or <a href=\"https:\/\/thepostmillennial.com\/scientific-journals-tout-achievement-of-medicalized-gender-transition-of-minors-including-surgeries\">medically transition<\/a> will no longer identify as \u00a0transgender in adulthood. &#8220;Despite the differences in country, culture, decade, and follow-up length and method, all the studies have come to a remarkably similar conclusion: Only very few trans-kids still want to transition by the time they are adults.
