A \u201cspecial master\u201d is described by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.cornell.edu\/wex\/special_master\">Cornell Law<\/a> as an individual \u201cappointed by a court to carry out some sort of action on its behalf.\u201d The court filing is the first issued by the former president since the FBI executed a <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/08\/donald-trump-statement-fbi-raid-mar-a-lago-florida\/\">search warrant<\/a> at Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawsuit accuses the U.S. government of failing to provide him \u201cwith any reason for the unprecedented, general search of his home,\u201d according to the documents filed. Trump also accuses the FBI of taking \u201cp<span>rivileged and\/or\u00a0<\/span><span>potentially privileged materials\u201d along with <\/span><span>other articles \u201cthat were outside the lawful reach of an already overbroad warrant.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit notes that Trump\u2019s team hasn\u2019t been made aware of the \u201cnature\u201d of the \u201c<span>privileged\u00a0<\/span><span>and\/or potentially\u00a0<\/span>privileged<span> documents\u201d taken from Mar-a-Lago. The former president\u2019s lawsuit implies that that the raid was politically motivated, an <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/11\/trump-response-fbi-raid-merrick-garland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">accusation<\/a> that Trump and his team have suggested numerous times.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Trump, like all citizens, is protected by the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Property seized in violation of his constitutional rights must be returned forthwith,\u201d the filing reads. \u201cLaw enforcement is a shield that protects Americans. It cannot be used as a weapon for political purposes. REUTERS\/Marco Bello\/File Photo<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cShort of returning the seized items to Movant, only a neutral review by a Special Master can protect the \u2018great public interest\u2019 in preserving \u2018the confidentiality of conversations that take place in the President\u2019s performance of his official duties\u2019 because such confidentiality is necessary to protect \u2018the effectiveness of the executive decision-making process,&#8217;\u201d the filing continues.<\/p>\n<p>Monday\u2019s lawsuit comes as Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart is <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/18\/federal-judge-considering-partial-unseal-affidavit-donald-trump-raid\/\">considering<\/a> allowing a redacted version of the affidavit relating to the FBI\u2019s raid to be unsealed. Reinhart, who previously signed off on the search warrant used in the FBI\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/08\/donald-trump-statement-fbi-raid-mar-a-lago-florida\/\">raid<\/a>, told the DOJ on Aug. 18 to propose redactions to the affidavit and be prepared to explain each specific redaction by next Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/politics\/live-news\/mar-a-lago-fbi-search-warrant-hearing\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.flsd.617854\/gov.uscourts.flsd.617854.80.0_2.pdf\">Monday<\/a>, Reinhart <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/22\/bruce-reinhart-doj-mar-a-lago-affidavit-trump\/\">pushed<\/a> back on the DOJ\u2019s reluctance to release the affidavit, writing that it can only remain sealed if \u201cthere is a compelling governmental interest and the denial of access is \u2018narrowly tailored to serve that interest.&#8217;\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/18\/federal-bureau-of-investigation-donald-trump-mar-a-lago-raid-russia-collusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: REPORT: FBI Was After Documents Trump Believed Would \u2018Exonerate\u2019 Him From Russia Conspiracy)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trump issued a statement about the motion soon after it was filed, writing that the search was \u201cillegal and unconstitutional\u201d and describing it as a \u201cBreak-In, Search, and Seizure,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/trump-files-lawsuit-seeking-independent-review-fbi-raid-mar-a-lago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Fox News. \u201cThey took documents covered by attorney-client and executive privilege, which is not allowed. They took my passports.
