Santiago\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is that the market forces of supply and demand control oil prices, which then affect gas prices for consumers,\u201d Mark Perry, a senior fellow at AEI and a professor emeritus of economics at the University of Michigan, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. \u201cIf oil and gas companies were really in control of gas prices and gouging consumers, why would they have let gas prices fall by $1.19 per gallon over the last few months, from an average of $5.02 in early June to $3.83 today?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although gas prices have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/08\/21\/granholm-gas-prices-china-00052987\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">falling<\/a> over the past few months, oil companies <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/29\/big-oil-posts-record-profits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">boasted<\/a> record profits in their second-quarter earnings reports. The price of gas is still roughly 80 cents higher per gallon than its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/13\/how-much-gas-cost-every-year-since-1978.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">highest<\/a> point in 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to AAA data.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2020 when oil prices were historically low and fell below $20 per barrel in April 2020, oil companies like Exxon lost $22.4 billion,\u201d Perry stated. \u201cThat\u2019s the cyclical nature of the oil business, and unless we\u2019re going to subsidize them when they lose billions of dollars, we shouldn\u2019t penalize, prosecute or villainize them when they have a good year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman leads every single PA senate poll\u00a0while his opponent, Republican nominee Mehmet Oz, down by as many as 18 points in some polling, <a href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/polls\/senate\/2022\/pennsylvania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to FiveThirtyEight.<\/p>\n<p>Fetterman\u2019s campaign did not immediately respond to the DCNF\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p><em>Gabe Kaminsky contributed to this article.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
