Titles include classics from \u201cTo Kill a Mockingbird\u201d and \u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale\u201d to the Harry Potter novels. The list of purportedly blacklisted books, however, was entirely made up, with many <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ZaidJilani\/status\/1561514312287617024?s=20&amp;t=m-3jg-DW2e-pXlSwRhetoA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">remaining <\/a>in K-12 curricula throughout the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy bad,\u201d Weingarten <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rweingarten\/status\/1561516929826918402\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> in a follow-up post. \u201cLooks like some of the books weren\u2019t banned.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rweingarten\/status\/1561516929826918402?s=20&amp;t=d0VeThdTyxepovMl9TMQhw\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Weingarten was reelected to the nation\u2019s second-largest teacher\u2019s union in America last month for an eighth term. Under her tenure, the group partnered with NewsGuard, a popular pro-censorship browser extension to be <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/01\/27\/left-wing-misinformation-group-will-help-teachers-union-indoctrinate-students-with-corrupt-media-propaganda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">implemented<\/a> in classrooms dictating to students what news sources are acceptable. The cooperative, announced in January, was branded in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aft.org\/press-release\/aft-partners-newsguard-combat-misinformation-online\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press release<\/a> as a campaign to \u201ccombat misinformation online.\u201d NewsGuard\u2019s ratings, however, continue to score legacy outlets which sought to dismiss the Hunter Biden laptop story as disinformation with <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/18\/left-wing-rating-agency-grades-media-that-botched-hunter-biden-story-with-100-percent-credibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">perfect credibility<\/a> while the New York Post and The Federalist are given dismal grades. The left-wing disinformation group also <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/22\/newsguard-downgrades-fox-news-while-rating-hunter-biden-story-censors-with-perfect-credibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">downgraded<\/a> Fox News in July with claims the network \u201cfails to adhere to several basic journalistic standards\u201d and \u201cpublished numerous false and misleading claims, including about politics and COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNewsGuard is a for-profit organization operating under the guise of an objective public service,\u201d Fox News Media said in a statement upon the updated rating. \u201cTheir management and editorial teams rely heavily on left-leaning sourcing to attempt to silence diversity of thought in media. FOX News is proud of the coverage we provide our dedicated viewers, which is why we attract the most politically diverse audience in cable news.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NewsGuard\u2019s board of advisers <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/18\/ex-cia-chief-who-called-gop-most-dangerous-force-on-earth-is-on-board-of-left-wing-misinformation-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">includes<\/a> former CIA Director Michael Hayden, who labeled Republicans the most \u201cdangerous\u201d political force on Earth last week.<\/p>\n<p>In May, a team of researchers at New York University (NYU) studied the effectiveness of the browser extension redirecting users to websites deemed credible by the company\u2019s censors. Investigators\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/05\/10\/even-nyu-study-on-left-wing-misinformation-group-finds-news-rating-agency-useless\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a>\u00a0no effect on individuals\u2019 ability to identify misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>NewsGuard did not respond to The Federalist\u2019s request for comment on Monday over Weingarten\u2019s publication of fake news to her more than 100,000 followers on Twitter. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
