The lawsuit came approximately two months after the group lodged the related request in June.<\/p>\n<p>The appeal sought any emails or text messages to and from the two agencies mentioning the\u00a0Promoting Access to Voting executive order and the Hatch Act, which limits certain political activities of federal employees, according to the complaints.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe time period covered by the FOIA request was January 20, 2021 to June 2, 2022,\u201d the complaint stated.<\/p>\n<p> Driving Voter Registration Through Federal Bureaucracy <\/p>\n<p>In March 2021, Biden signed Executive Order 14019, titled \u201cPromoting Access to Voting,\u201d in a bid to \u201cleverage the resources of the federal government to increase access to voter registration services and information about voting,\u201d according to a White House statement.<\/p>\n<p>The stated goal of the executive order is to remove obstacles to voting for service members, people with disabilities, and Native Americans. The measure also directs federal agencies to expand time off policies to allow federal workers to vote and volunteer as poll workers.<\/p>\n<p>However,\u00a0Citizens United President David <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citizensunited.org\/latest-updates.aspx?article=12722\">Bossie said<\/a>\u00a0the administration\u2019s move \u201cpoliticizes the federal workforce.\u201d He called it \u201ca blatant abuse of power that needs much more transparency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Biden Administration may have violated the Hatch Act and these records should provide the answer,\u201d Bossie told The Federalist.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis issue deserves far more transparency and that\u2019s why we\u2019re demanding these records be released to the American people,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p> Conservatives\u2019 Concern <\/p>\n<p>The order, which has been dubbed an \u201celection takeover\u201d by conservatives, has sparked concern that it<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The non-profit group Citizens United filed lawsuits on Aug. 17 against the U.S. Department of the Interior and Department of State over their failure to provide records related to President Joe Biden\u2019s Promoting Access to Voting executive order, the Federalist has learned.
