Because they are unfavorable, the judge in the case will allow the redacted affidavit to be released, he added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey will not redact anything unfavorable to Trump,\u201d Dershowitz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsmax.com\/newsmax-tv\/dershowitz-trump-raid\/2022\/08\/20\/id\/1083921\/\">told<\/a> Newsmax on Saturday.\u00a0\u201cThey will redact things that are favorable to Trump. They\u2019ll claim national security.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former criminal defense attorney then predicted that Trump\u2019s lawyers will not be allowed to be present when determining what should be redacted. The reason why is because the former president\u2019s attorneys \u201cwould find out the names of informers,\u201d Dershowitz explained.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s team, meanwhile, is not involved in requests to release the Justice Department\u2019s affidavit. Several news outlets and third-party groups filed motions to release the document.<\/p>\n<p> Reinhart\u2019s Orders <\/p>\n<p>During a hearing last week, U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Reinhart ordered the Justice Department to submit the affidavit with proposed redactions. Then, he will consider releasing the legal document to the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am inclined to say I am not going to seal the entire affidavit,\u201d Reinhart said during the Aug. 18 hearing. \u201cI find that on the present record the Government has not met its burden of showing that the entire affidavit should remain sealed,\u201d the judge added.<\/p>\n<p>The former president and fellow Republicans have called for the affidavit to be released in full, suggesting that it would reveal the Department of Justice\u2019s bias against Trump.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump has made his view clear that the American people should be permitted to see the unredacted affidavit related to the raid and break-in of his home,\u201d wrote<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alan Dershowitz, the Harvard Law professor emeritus, predicted that Department of Justice lawyers will \u201ccherry-pick\u201d what they want to be redacted when disclosing an affidavit that sought a search warrant on former President Donald Trump\u2019s Florida home earlier this month.
