Campbell.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201cYoung needs to come clean about what he is doing for the J6 Committee,\u201d Tom Jones, executive director of the American Accountability Foundation, told the DCNF. \u201cThere is no way a husband can give an independent and objective assessment of his wife\u2019s performance.\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Jan. 6 Committee hired an investigative consultant who could have a major \u201cconflict of interest,\u201d watchdogs told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Young\u00a0is a senior financial investigator <a href=\"https:\/\/polarsolutionsinc.com\/about-us\/\">at<\/a> the consultancy Polar Solutions Inc and a contractor for the Jan. 6 Committee, according <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/brian-young-mba-ms-199ab135\/\">to<\/a> his LinkedIn profile and an internal congressional document obtained by the DCNF. But he is also married <a href=\"https:\/\/wiflefoundation.org\/resources\/2022\/Speakers\/Kim-Campbell.pdf\">to<\/a> House Deputy Sergeant-at-Arms (SAA) Kim E. Campbell, the second most senior official in the SAA, which like the U.S. Capitol Police is being probed by the committee for security failures in connection to the Capitol riot.<\/p>\n<p>The relationship could pose \u201ca huge conflict of interest\u201d if Young\u2019s work involves reviewing the performance of the SAA or Capitol Police, according to Tom Jones, executive director of the watchdog American Accountability Foundation. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/17\/mike-pence-testifying-january-6-committee-invitation\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Mike Pence Says He\u2019ll \u2018Consider\u2019 Testifying For January 6 Committee If Invited)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYoung needs to come clean about what he is doing for the J6 Committee,\u201d Jones told the DCNF. \u201cThere is no way a husband can give an independent and objective assessment of his wife\u2019s performance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The House and Senate SAA offices coordinate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.house.gov\/the-house-explained\/officers-and-organizations\/sergeant-at-arms\">with<\/a> U.S. Capitol Police and are responsible for maintaining Capitol security, protecting members and overseeing emergency management.\u00a0The <span dir=\"ltr\">Jan. 6<\/span> Committee is investigating \u201cthe sharing of intelligence\u201d between federal, state and local agencies with the SAA offices and Capitol Police with regard to the Capitol riot, <a href=\"https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/january6th.house.gov\/about&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1661113902660000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3hq2xPe7m98cmo1IiQ_xz8\">according<\/a>\u00a0to its website.<\/p>\n<p>The committee is also probing the House SAA and other government offices\u2019 \u201csystems for monitoring\u201d intelligence on or <span dir=\"ltr\">before Jan. 6<\/span>\u00a0and plans to issue both an interim and final report on its findings, conclusions and recommendations \u201cfor corrective measures.\u201d Former House SAA Paul Irving, who resigned one day after the Capitol riot,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/Testimony-Irving-2021-02-23.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.hsgac.senate.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/Testimony-Irving-2021-02-23.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1661113902660000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0XY5537lLTqoWZLnCeA_m7\">testified<\/a>\u00a0before the committee in February 2021 that \u201cmore has to be done\u201d to ensure better security for the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>Polar Solutions was paid over $93,000 in December 2021 and January 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.house.gov\/the-house-explained\/open-government\/statement-of-disbursements\">according<\/a> to House disbursement records. Through his job at Polar Solutions, Young provides \u201cprofessional services and expertise to the Legislative Branch for Law Enforcement, National Defense and National Security,\u201d according to his LinkedIn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor this committee to utilize, in any capacity, a consultant who is literally married to a high ranking official within the SAA\u2019s office is highly inappropriate,\u201d Republican South Carolina Rep. The DCNF did not review the contents of the alleged email.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it is true that he communicated with his wife about a matter involving her office, this is Ethics Conflicts 101,\u201d Michael Chamberlain, director of the watchdog Protect the Public\u2019s Trust, told the DCNF. \u201cThe reason ethics laws were enacted in the first place was to prevent precisely this type of conflict of interest from impacting government activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also raises the question of how he was even allowed to be in the position where this type of conflict could exist,\u201d said Chamberlain. \u201cWhy would those in charge of such a high profile and controversial committee jeopardize the credibility of their investigation like this? It certainly does not add to the committee\u2019s already questionable efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Jan. 6 Committee did not respond to a request for comment, nor did the House SAA office, Campbell or Young.
