At the time of the actual breach, the session had broken up so that members of each chamber could debate the validity of some of the votes.<\/p>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump wanted Pence to intervene in the certification by ruling against some of the slates, but Pence said just hours before the session he would not do so, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/pence-constitution-constrains-me-from-rejecting-electoral-votes_3646080.html\">citing the U.S. Constitution<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLook, he played a critical role on Jan. 6,\u201d Cheney told ABC. \u201cIf he had succumbed to the pressure that Donald Trump was putting on him, we would have had a much worse constitutional crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/pence-pointing-1200x804-1.jpg\"><\/a> Former Vice President Mike Pence speaks at Stanford University in Stanford, Calif., on Feb. 17, 2022.
