Similarly, children with gender dysphoria who undergo gender-affirming surgery are <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/06\/30\/brown-gender-modification-techniques-are-experiments-on-minors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">often<\/a> left scared, sterile, and with lifelong medical needs.<\/p>\n<p>Videos taken from the Boston Children\u2019s Hospital YouTube channel, which had been publicly available for months, showed doctors <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BillboardChris\/status\/1558823459651817477?s=20&amp;t=zcfpuCkMw6bj0M2e7YU3iw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attesting<\/a> that the hospital is seeing patients as young as \u201ctwo and three\u201d for gender dysphoria.<\/p>\n<p>Some treatments for gender confusion permit children to dress, play and present as the other gender, while other treatments prescribe irreversible procedures like administering cross-sex hormones or performing sex change surgery. The American Academy of Pediatrics <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/pediatrics\/article\/142\/4\/e20182162\/37381\/Ensuring-Comprehensive-Care-and-Support-for\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recommends<\/a> physicians accept a child\u2019s preferred gender rather than their biological sex. This is commonly referred to as \u201cgender-affirming care.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/19\/marjorie-taylor-greene-transgender-operations-minors-felony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED:\u00a0Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Introduces Bill To Make \u2018Gender Affirming Care\u2019 On Minors A Felony)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best way to approach gender with patients is to inquire directly and nonjudgmentally about their experience and feelings before applying any labels,\u201d the APA stated. \u201cThere is a limited but growing body of evidence that suggests that using an integrated affirmative model results in young people having fewer mental health concerns whether they ultimately identify as transgender,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n<p>Boston Children\u2019s Hospital, and other gender centers\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thrive.kaiserpermanente.org\/care-near-you\/southern-california\/transgender\/programs-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">like<\/a>\u00a0Southern\u00a0California\u2019s Kaiser Permanente, <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/pediatrics\/article\/143\/6\/e20183053\/37142\/Ethical-Issues-Considered-When-Establishing-a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">follow<\/a> the Standards of Care (SOC) detailed in guidance from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/18\/wpath-world-professional-association-for-transgender-health-eunuch-forum-castration-fetish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WPATH<\/a> is a non-profit organization for transgender care professionals that recommends treatment options for people who identify as transgender. Its latest SOC, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wpath.org\/soc8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SOC version 8<\/a>, has not been released but is expected to lower the minimum age to 17 for recommending sex change surgeries, including hysterectomies, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/gender-transition-treatment-guidelines-9dbe54f670a3a0f5f2831c2bf14f9bbb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> the AP.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0co-director of the\u00a0National Center for Gender Spectrum Health, Dianne Berg, raised concerns that \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d brushes past important assessment work needed to determine if the child has gender dysphoria or not.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t want to be a gatekeeper. Boston Children\u2019s has been up to its eyeballs in this process,\u201d Richards said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that until recently, almost all young kids with gender dysphoria reconciled with their sexed bodies after they get through puberty,\u201d he said. \u201cThe effect of \u2018gender affirmation\u2019 and early social transition, in contrast, is to put kids on a fast track to surgical intervention and sterilization. Instead, he describes a process where the doctor prescribes puberty blockers to \u201cbuy time\u201d for the child.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/drugs-supplements\/leuprolide-intradermal-route-intramuscular-route-subcutaneous-route\/side-effects\/drg-20067038\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lupron<\/a>, a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/static.cigna.com\/assets\/chcp\/pdf\/coveragePolicies\/pharmacy\/ip_0109_coveragepositioncriteria_leuprolide_la.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commonly prescribed<\/a> puberty blocker for girls who identify as boys, works by suppressing estrogen production in pre-pubescent females. An Oklahoma woman, Sharissa Derricott, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/health\/women-fear-drug-they-used-to-halt-puberty-led-to-health-problems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> PBS in 2017 that she suffered daily from the long-term effects of being prescribed Lupron as a young girl.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt just feels like I\u2019m being punished for basically being experimented on when I was a child,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019d hate for a child to be put on Lupron, get to my age and go through the things I have been through.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Derricott said that she has chronic pain from degenerative disc disease and fibromyalgia and that her teeth are weak and crack from the enamel shedding.<\/p>\n<p>Former WPATH board member, psychologist Dr. Erica Anderson <a href=\"https:\/\/quillette.com\/2022\/01\/06\/a-transgender-pioneer-explains-why-she-stepped-down-from-uspath-and-wpath\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> Quillette in January the decision to resign from\u00a0the U.S. Professional Association for Transgender Health in 2021 came when Anderson \u201ccould no longer continue in good conscience to support the direction of the USPATH.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m worried that gender minority identities have become a bit trendy, and that with the weird circumstances of the last two years of the pandemic, adolescents who are notoriously susceptible to peer influence have found it necessary to have their communication and their social relationships online. They\u2019ve gotten more information, and more social support online than ever before, and they\u2019re reliant on it,\u201d Anderson, a biological male who identifies as female, said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will tell you, having had many, many hundreds of interviews with kids and families, I don\u2019t give a 13- or 14-year-old carte blanche just because they say magic words,\u201d Anderson continued. \u201cTo just say that if a kid says they\u2019re trans, they\u2019re trans, and so treat them as such, and expedite gender-affirming medical support?
