Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) may have violated House ethics rules, a charge that Nadler\u2019s campaign has denied.<\/p>\n<p>Americans for Public Trust <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/nadler-senior-staffer-providing-legal-services-congressman-breaking-house-rules-watchdog\">told Fox News<\/a> that Nadler\u2019s senior staffer, district director Robert Gottheim, performed \u201cfiduciary services as an attorney\u201d for the New York congressman for three years until 2021 while meeting the senior staff threshold.<\/p>\n<p>Citing data from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-federal-election-commission\">Federal Election Commission<\/a> (FEC), the Fox report pointed out that Gottheim was paid $81,345 between 2019 and 2021 by Nadler\u2019s campaign for legal and strategy services. What\u2019s more, he was also paid $940 from Gottheim\u2019s leadership political action committee.<\/p>\n<p>The House Committee on Ethics <a href=\"https:\/\/ethics.house.gov\/campaign\/campaign-work-house-employees\">states<\/a> on its website banning House lawmakers, officers, and senior staff from receiving compensation for certain activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe restrictions prohibit senior staff from, among other things, (1) receiving compensation for practicing any profession that involves a fiduciary relationship, including, for example, law or accounting,\u201d the committee says.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, a senior staff member \u201cmay not receive any compensation for either providing legal services to a political organization, or for serving as an officer (such as treasurer) of such an organization,\u201d according to the committee.<\/p>\n<p>Caitlin Sutherland, the executive director of Americans for Public Trust, criticized Nadler for failing to comply with House regulations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJerry Nadler brags about being the \u2018conscience of the House,\u2019 yet he can\u2019t even ensure that his top staffer is in compliance with simple House ethics rules,\u201d Sutherland told Fox News. \u201cIt is absolutely against the law to be compensated for campaign work that involves fiduciary duties, and accordingly, we will look into filing a complaint with the Office of Congressional Ethics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Nadler\u2019s congressional <a href=\"https:\/\/nadler.house.gov\/about-jerry\/\">website<\/a>, Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) called Nadler a \u201cgifted constitutional scholar and the conscience of the House\u201d when she was House Minority Leader.<\/p>\n<p>Nadler is currently<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A government oversight nonprofit claimed that Rep.
