Classic toddler games like \u201ckeepy uppy\u201d (involving balloons) and climbing the parents (or \u201cMount Mumandad,\u201d as the show has it) are depicted, along with<a href=\"https:\/\/www.romper.com\/parenting\/bluey-games\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> wildly creative ones.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Bluey executive producer Daley Pearson explained their approach to the Times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlay is a child\u2019s first draft of life,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s where you learn responsibility and compromise and all that tough stuff and great stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nearly every day, our toddlers ask us to join in a game like \u201cticklecrabs,\u201d that they first learned on \u201cBluey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Parents See Ourselves In the Characters and Relationships<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As much as it draws kids in, Bluey concurrently spotlights doggy parents Bandit and Chilli.<\/p>\n<p>For instance, \u201cBaby Race\u201d deals with the subtle-and-sometimes-not competition among moms regarding their kids\u2019 development milestones, while \u201cCafe\u201d comments on modern-day challenges of adult friendships.<\/p>\n<p>When praising the show as \u201caddictive, joyous, and witty,\u201d a writer for The Guardian spent much of his feature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2022\/jun\/11\/bluey-australian-children-cartoon-joe-brumm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confessing inadequacy<\/a> watching Bluey\u2019s dad play at his kids\u2019 level.<br \/>This season, the parents aren\u2019t so perfect\u2014Bandit gets frustrated when Bluey can\u2019t focus long enough to learn his beloved chess, while Chilli comes back from the brink of being overwhelmed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Kids Love the Fun and Memorable Music (Actually, Parents, Too)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many children\u2019s TV shows cheaply rely on about a dozen music cues, replayed incessantly. With Bluey, other than the theme song, every episode has a unique soundtrack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2022-07-01\/bluey-music-composer-joff-bush-making-magic-kids-tv\/101178516\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">courtesy of composer Joff Bush.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor seven minutes of Bluey, I probably spend more time on that than I\u2019ve spent on an hour of [other] TV,\u201d said Bush in a recent interview.<\/p>\n<p>Along with original tunes, Bush mixes in melodies from Tchaikovsky, Pachelbel, and \u2014 in an imaginative space-based episode \u2014 Gustav Holst\u2019s The Planets.<br \/>Intending to bring concert-hall standards down from any pedestal, the composer says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s something really fun about taking these well-known classical tunes (and) messing with them a bit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>4) Parents Consider Bluey a Family-Focused Version of Seinfeld<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inspired by landmark sitcom Seinfeld, which squeezed maximum laughs out of routine situations like parking lots or eating yogurt, some Bluey episodes follow this template with hilarious results.<\/p>\n<p>As Bandit and kids wait for a to-go order, havoc ensues in \u201cTakeaway\u201d; while, in \u201cFlat Pack,\u201d the parents manage to assemble an Ikea furniture piece.<br \/>This season, watch for \u201cOmelette,\u201d about kids making breakfast, and \u201cPhones\u201d as grandparents navigate technology.<\/p>\n<p>And, like Seinfeld, Bluey increasingly features a few sly celebrity cameos. In these new episodes, listen for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.distractify.com\/p\/natalie-portman-bluey-cameo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oscar-winner Natalie Portman<\/a> as a nature documentary narrator in \u201cWhale Watching,\u201d and actress Eva Mendes in \u201cBorn Yesterday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>5) Kids Relate to How These Dogs Think, Talk and Explore<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>From the start, creator Brumm has been adamant that his show will never scold viewers and teach heavy-handed moral lessons.<\/p>\n<p>Bluey is about the wide-eyed wonder of kids: learning new games, meeting new friends, and discovering beauty in the world around us.<\/p>\n<p>In that simplicity, one family\u2019s adventures reflect many truths \u2014 about taking risks, protecting innocence, and having empathy for others. Perhaps that\u2019s why Bluey has been so widely embraced worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Another internationally produced kids show getting buzz this summer, Lovely Little Farm, also weaves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.familytheater.org\/blog\/appletv-plus-love-little-farm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">healthy doses of imagination<\/a> into its depiction of daily family routines.
