The site included a touching message about his child\u2019s battle and raising funds to hopefully find a cure for other kids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHenry Engel was born on September 29, 2015,\u201d the message read. \u201cWhen he was still an infant, his parents noticed that he was not reaching his developmental milestones, and he underwent numerous medical exams to discover the cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA genetic test ultimately provided the answer: Henry had a mutation in his MECP2 gene,\u201d the message added. \u201cMECP2 mutations cause Rett syndrome, a disorder that typically affects girls after their first birthday, robbing them of learned skills and leaving them with cognitive deficits, loss of speech, and a variety of motor difficulties.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 2018, Henry and his family came to Texas Children\u2019s Hospital\u2019s Duncan Neurological Research Institute (Duncan NRI),\u201d it continued. \u201cSince then, Henry\u2019s mutation has been studied by Dr. Huda Zoghbi, who discovered that MECP2 mutations cause Rett syndrome.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The message on the memorial page explained that \u201cHenry made the best of every single day\u201d and \u201cworked tirelessly in his many physical and developmental therapies.\u201d It also talked about what an \u201cinspiration\u201d Henry continues to be for the medical team working to find a cure to his syndrome.<\/p>\n<p>The letter closed out by noting how the Engel family \u201chas requested that those who wish to honor\u201d Henry\u2019s memory \u201ckindly direct contributions to support our continued research efforts.\u201d The link to that page for those interested can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/give.texaschildrens.org\/site\/Donation2;jsessionid=00000000.app20093a?df_id=4148&#038;mfc_pref=T&#038;4148.donation=form1&#038;NONCE_TOKEN=CD44DBDB1F1143CE99A3FDE4501BC2FD\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the NBC News reporter shared the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RichardEngel\/status\/1560272477854478343?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1560272477854478343%7Ctwgr%5E38596c61019953d693eebdd2ed50c429ceaa227e%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fiframe.nbcnews.com%2FcdYLLKq%3F_showcaption%3Dtrueapp%3D1\">message<\/a> about his son\u2019s death, fellow members of the media and news commentators reached out to show their support.
