The effect of \u2018gender affirmation\u2019 and early social transition, in contrast, is to put kids on a fast track to surgical intervention and sterilization,\u201d Dr. Jay Richards, senior research fellow at the DeVos Center, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Several media outlets have downplayed the prevalence of transgender surgeries for minors amid controversy surrounding Boston Children\u2019s Hospital\u2019s gender center, but the hospital\u2019s own publicly available documents show that doctors are performing sex change surgeries on children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The hospital has performed at least 65 transgender chest surgeries on minors, the vast majority of whom were biologically female and identified as transgender males. The hospital\u2019s guidance <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220409020642\/https:\/\/www.childrenshospital.org\/programs\/center-gender-surgery-program\/eligibility-surgery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">allowed<\/a> vaginoplasty at 17 and did not <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/8fDtq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">list<\/a> an age limit for \u201cgender-affirming\u201d hysterectomies until online activists shared the hospital\u2019s videos promoting the procedures, sparking outrage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Boston Children\u2019s Hospital performed 204 \u201cgender affirmation\u201d surgeries from 2017 to 2020, including 65 chest surgeries performed on minors, according to data <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC9000168\/pdf\/jcm-11-01943.pdf\"><span class=\"s1\">published<\/span><\/a> by the National Institutes of Health. The operation takes up to 18 months to recover from and requires long-term maintenance including regular vaginal dilation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The gender center at Boston Children\u2019s Hospital came under fire after a Libs of TikTok <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/libsoftiktok\/status\/1557775959217950725\"><span class=\"s1\">tweet<\/span><\/a> claimed the hospital was offering \u201cgender-affirming\u201d hysterectomies to \u201cyoung girls\u201d Aug. 11, citing a promotional video for the procedure which the hospital has since removed from YouTube. They also follow WPATH guidelines which allow it.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/pksrDhDmjd\">https:\/\/t.co\/pksrDhDmjd<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2nvBoo8nEy\">https:\/\/t.co\/2nvBoo8nEy<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/5bJpttzrQK\">pic.twitter.com\/5bJpttzrQK<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Christina Buttons (@buttonslives) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/buttonslives\/status\/1559720241307033600?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 17, 2022<\/a> <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/tech\/internet\/boston-childrens-hospital-warns-employees-far-right-online-harassment-rcna43376\">NBC News<\/a><\/span> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vice.com\/en\/article\/epzv9a\/libsoftiktok-trans-children-boston-hospital\"><span class=\"s1\">Vice<\/span><\/a> both cited both of these fact checks to claim the Libs of TikTok hysterectomy story had been debunked.<\/p>\n<p>The hospital <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.aap.org\/pediatrics\/article\/143\/6\/e20183053\/37142\/Ethical-Issues-Considered-When-Establishing-a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">follows<\/a> standards of care produced by the <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/05\/18\/wpath-world-professional-association-for-transgender-health-eunuch-forum-castration-fetish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World Professional Association of Transgender Health<\/a> (WPATH), which advises against genital surgeries for minors but says chest surgeries should be available to minors, \u201cpreferably after ample time of living in the desired gender role and after one year of testosterone treatment.\u201d But WPATH\u2019s new guidelines, which have not been released to the public, lower the minimum age recommendation for hysterectomies and most genital surgeries to 17, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/gender-transition-treatment-guidelines-9dbe54f670a3a0f5f2831c2bf14f9bbb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to the Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>Boston Children\u2019s Hospital is not alone in offering surgical interventions to minors who identify as transgender.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cSurgeons are focusing more attention to gender reassignment surgeries in minors,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/transhealthproject.org\/documents\/45\/Minor_top_surgery_literature_review.pdf\"><span class=\"s1\">according<\/span><\/a> to a literature review from the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund. \u201cFor the more complex surgery of vaginoplasty, over half of the surgeons practicing in this area have performed vaginoplasty on an individual under age 18. Nearly all surgeons relied on the term \u2018maturity\u2019 rather than chronological age to determine patients\u2019 readiness for the procedure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Statistics about childhood sex change surgeries don\u2019t tell the full story of what\u2019s being done to children in the name of gender ideology, Dr. Jay Richards, senior research fellow at the DeVos Center, told the Daily Caller News Foundation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt\u2019s crucial to understand that this \u2018treatment\u2019 involves a series of interventions, starting with \u2018social transition\u2019 and then puberty blockers, followed by cross-sex hormones and then surgery.
