Dan Frankel (D-PA) recently\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TD3AHZgbYpU&#038;t=1s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">interviewed<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> a self-described \u201cLGBTQIA+ advocate\u201d and pediatrician at Children\u2019s Hospital of Pittsburgh, who said children can begin to medically transition genders as early as 10 years old, and minor females can have their breasts removed.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">To clear up the so-called misinformation surrounding the medical culture war involving transgender youth, Dr. Gerald Montano, who also works as the assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and adolescent medicine physician at Children\u2019s Hospital in Pittsburgh, explained to Frankel what \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d looks like for children at five and 10 years old.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Montano, who also runs a gender and sexuality program at the hospital, said rather than providing medical intervention for a five year old, doctors refer the child to a therapist who explores their so-called gender identity \u201cto make them feel comfortable with how they feel about themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cFor a 10 year old, that really depends on where they are in puberty because for some people \u2014 especially those who are assigned female at birth \u2014 they might start having signs of puberty,\u201d Montano said. \u201cAnd then there is a discussion on whether or not puberty blockers may be warranted for that individual because they can become really distressed if they\u2019re starting to develop secondary sex characteristics that really distresses them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Frankel asked about surgical options for children and when that becomes part of the discussion.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Montano said the vast majority of surgeries are not done until the child turns 18 years old, depending on the type of operation.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cThe only exception is top surgery in which sometimes that is done earlier,\u201d he said, adding that the choice is an \u201cintensely personal decision\u201d between the child, the family, and the medical professionals.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cNot every transgender person or gender non-binary individuals need to go through surgery, and again, at the end of the day, it\u2019s an intensely personal decision that they have to take to make themselves feel affirmed in their gender identity,\u201d Montano said.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">And despite the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issuing a warning last month that puberty blockers could cause brain swelling, loss of vision, and serious risks for children injecting the hormone, Montano claimed the hormones are \u201csafe\u201d and completely reversible with no long term effects after usage stops \u2014 a message often promulgated by \u201cgender-affirming care\u201d activists.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The Daily Wire previously reported that FDA officials said a plausible association between using puberty blockers and pseudotumor cerebri, which displays symptoms similar to a brain tumor, was identified in six young girls between the ages of 5 and 12.<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cFive were undergoing treatment for central precocious puberty and one for transgender care,\u201d FDA officials report. \u201cThe onset of pseudotumor cerebri symptoms ranged from three to 240 days after GnRH agonist initiation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Daily Wire host Matt Walsh Walsh has exposed through his recent documentary \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/videos\/what-is-a-woman\">What Is A Woman?<\/a>\u201d that Lupron, a type of puberty blocker, is the same drug used to chemically castrate sex offenders,\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MattWalshBlog\/status\/1560028484625465345\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">adding<\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0that \u201cit is an objective fact that [Children\u2019s Hospital of Pittsburgh] chemically castrates children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Here is an interview between Democrat congressman Dan Frankel and Dr <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GeraldTMontano1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@GeraldTMontano1<\/a> of the Children\u2019s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
