At one point prior to the invasion, analysts reportedly became convinced that Putin viewed time as of the essence if he were to execute his idea.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/23\/vladimir-putin-military-operation-donbas-war-ukraine\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0War Begins As Russia Engages In Full-Scale Invasion Of Ukraine)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Putin, in mulling over his invasion idea, reportedly believed that while the West would respond with strong outrage, \u201cactual punishment\u201d would be limited, according to The Post. The Biden Administration\u2019s then-recent debacle in Afghanistan, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/04\/bipartisan-female-senators-joe-biden-america-afghanistan-taliban-women-girls-rights\/\">widely<\/a> viewed as <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/01\/18\/declassified-watchdog-report-joe-biden-warned-afghanistan-air-force-collapse\/\">disastrous<\/a>, also came to Putin\u2019s mind, analysts reportedly determined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Russian leader, they [analysts] said, believed that the Biden administration was chastened by the humiliating U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and wanted to avoid new wars,\u201d The Post <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/yhHdQ#selection-853.0-864.0\">reported<\/a>. \u201cThe United States and Europe were still struggling through the coronavirus pandemic. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the de facto European leader, was leaving office and handing power to an untested successor. It also underscores arguments and admissions previously made regarding a possible connection between the Afghanistan withdrawal and Russia choosing to invade Ukraine.<\/p>\n<div id=\"rev-more-content\">\n<p>In April, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley conceded during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that President Joe Biden\u2019s withdrawal from Afghanistan may have played a role in Putin deciding to invade Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom the intelligence I\u2019ve read, it\u2019s not clear. I think it certainly is possible, but I also know that Putin had aims on Ukraine long before the end of the war in Afghanistan,\u201d Milley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/milley-concedes-afghanistan-withdrawal-may-have-influenced-putins-ukraine-move\">said<\/a> after Republican Tennessee Sen. Marsha Blackburn asked whether the withdrawal played a role in Putin\u2019s decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>Gen. Tod Wolters, the Supreme Allied Commander for Europe, also pointed out that the two incidents could be connected, The Washington Examiner <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/defense-national-security\/afghanistan-debacle-played-role-in-putins-ukraine-decision-general-says\">reported<\/a> back in March.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think he felt like he had popular support of the citizens of Russia,\u201d he noted. \u201cI also felt like he was attempting to take advantage of fissures that could have appeared in NATO as a result of the post-Afghanistan environment. And I also think that it has to do with his age and his efficacy.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/01\/joe-biden-leaked-memo-afghanistan-unprepared\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Leaked Memo Reveals Biden Administration\u2019s Last Minute Scramble On Afghanistan Withdrawal)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, just prior to Putin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/23\/vladimir-putin-military-operation-donbas-war-ukraine\/\">invasion<\/a>, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell associated the two situations, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stripes.com\/theaters\/us\/2022-02-16\/mitch-mcconnell-afghanistan-pullout-led-russian-march-ukraine-5043637.html\">telling<\/a> reporters that he believed \u201cRussians wouldn\u2019t be on the border of Ukraine with 100,000 more troops had we not indicated to the rest of the world we were pulling the plug on Afghanistan and going home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The withdrawal from Afghanistan also reportedly prompted some pause with U.S. allies as the Biden administration tried to get countries unified on the impending issue, according to The Post.
