Liz Cheney (R-WY) compared herself to former President Abraham Lincoln during her concession speech shortly after her loss to Trump-backed Republican challenger Harriet Hageman.<\/p>\n<p>Cheney claimed she lost her primary election only because she failed to \u201cgo along with President Trump\u2019s lie about the 2020 election.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt would have required that I enable his ongoing efforts to unravel our democratic system and attack the foundations of our republic. That is a path I could not and would not take,\u201d Cheney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6A0PGY7OsHo\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Cheney said her opposition to former President Donald Trump was rooted in \u201cthe principles\u201d that members of congress are sworn to protect and that she \u201cwell understood the potential political consequences\u201d of opposing Trump.<\/p>\n<p>She then compared herself to Lincoln, who saved the nation during our Civil War.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe great original champion of our party, Abraham Lincoln, was defeated in elections for the Senate and the house before he won the most important election of all,\u201d Cheney said. \u201cLincoln ultimately prevailed. He saved our union and he defined our obligation as Americans for all of history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6A0PGY7OsHo\">quoted<\/a> Lincoln\u2019s famous Gettysburg Address and claimed that Americans\u2019 \u201chighest duty\u201d is to \u201cprotect the foundations of this constitutional republic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After comparing herself to Lincoln, Cheney focused on the January 6 Capitol Riots and claimed that \u201cAmerica will never be the same\u201d if Americans do not \u201chold those responsible to account.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21315992\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/06\/GettyImages-1402697777.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">U.S. Rep. (Photo by Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAt the heart of the attack on January 6, is a willingness to embrace dangerous conspiracies that attack the very core premise of our nation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cOur nation is barreling once again toward crisis, lawlessness and violence,\u201d Cheney added. \u201cNo American should support election deniers at any position of genuine responsibility, where their refusal to follow the rule of law will corrupt our future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She also claimed that Trump is promoting an \u201cinsidious lie\u201d about the recent FBI raid of his Mar-a-Lago residence, which will \u201cprovoke violence and threats of violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump knows that voicing these conspiracies will provoke violence and threats of violence,\u201d Cheney said. \u201cThis happened on January 6, it is now happening again. It is entirely foreseeable that the violence will escalate further, yet he and others continue, purposely, to feed the danger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cheney mentioned Lincoln once more and opined that Civil War-era fighters like Lincoln and former President Ulysses S. Grant are \u201cspeaking to us down the generations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLincoln and Grant and all who fought in our nation\u2019s tragic civil war, including my own great-great-grandfathers, saved our union, their courage saved freedom,\u201d Cheney said. \u201cAnd if you listen closely, they\u2019re speaking to us down the generations. We must not idly squander what so many have fought and died for.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion, Cheney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6A0PGY7OsHo\">pledged<\/a> to \u201cdo whatever it takes\u201d to prevent Trump from regaining control of the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe must be very clear-eyed about the threat we face and about what is required to defeat it. I have said since January 6, that I will do whatever it takes to ensure Donald Trump is never again anywhere near the Oval Office,\u201d Cheney said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI ask you tonight to join me as we leave here, let us resolve that we will stand together, Republicans, Democrats and independents against those who will destroy our republic,\u201d Cheney concluded. \u201cThey are angry and they are determined.
