CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/08\/15\/dodge-challenger-charger-to-be-discontinued-in-2023.html\">reported<\/a> that Dodge\u2019s parent company Stellantis, formerly known as Fiat Chrysler, ranks at the bottom among U.S. car manufacturers for fuel economy and carbon emissions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are celebrating the end of an era \u2014 and the start of a bright new electrified future \u2014 by staying true to our brand,\u201d Dodge brand CEO of Stellantis Tim Kuniskis said in a statement, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/changing-america\/sustainability\/infrastructure\/3603742-dodge-discontinuing-gas-powered-muscle-cars\/\">according<\/a> to The Hill.<\/p>\n<p>The Charger was first introduced at a car show in 1964 and has caught the attention of car enthusiasts ever since, while the Dodge Challenger caused envy on the streets soon after in 1969. Both models were revised in the mid-to-late 2000s, and buyers continue to flock to the muscle cars as the Challenger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadandtrack.com\/news\/a38685407\/dodge-challenger-outsells-mustang-in-2021\/\">outsold<\/a> the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/ford-plans-to-cut-8000-jobs-so-it-can-fund-ev-push-report\">Ford<\/a> Mustang last year, and the Charger <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorbiscuit.com\/1-muscle-car-out-sold-dodge-challenger-q2-2022\/\">beat out<\/a> the Mustang in the second quarter of 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Dodge will say goodbye to the cars that helped give the company a name by selling seven special-edition Dodge models. The final model will be revealed in November at the 2022 SEMA show in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDay one is all our current cars, all about how much more we can jam into and get out of our current cars before they go out of production,\u201d Kuniskis said, per <a href=\"https:\/\/12ft.io\/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.detroitnews.com%2Fstory%2Fbusiness%2Fautos%2Fchrysler%2F2022%2F08%2F15%2Fchallenger-charger-dodge-ending-production-2023-gas-powered-speed-week-muscle%2F10302941002%2F\">The Detroit News<\/a>. \u201cWe want to make sure we\u2019re celebrating these cars properly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stephanie Brinley, principal automotive analyst for S&#038;P Global Mobility, noted the rarity of a car company ending production for a vehicle that still entices buyers. \u201cWhen a vehicle goes out of production, it\u2019s usually because it\u2019s no longer popular. It\u2019s something you don\u2019t want to celebrate,\u201d she commented. \u201cIn this case, change is happening, and the brand is going in a different direction.
