It is primarily spread from mother to child at birth, the organization explains.<\/p>\n<p>A post shared on Facebook claims the infection is curable. \u201cHepatitis B is 100 percent curable do not b (sic) deceived,\u201d reads the June 30 post. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/04\/27\/fact-check-drinking-magnesium-citrate-prevent-cure-coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/04\/27\/fact-check-drinking-magnesium-citrate-prevent-cure-coronavirus\/&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1660762320134000&#038;usg=AOvVaw04PGKl3jIgJtf_UFxy2jmy\">(RELATED: No, Drinking Magnesium Citrate Cannot Prevent Or Cure Coronavirus)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span>The claim is baseless. Although a vaccine can prevent the infection, there is no cure for hepatitis B, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/hepatitis-b\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20366802#:~:text=A%20vaccine%20can%20prevent%20hepatitis,spreading%20the%20virus%20to%20others.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mayo Clinic<\/a>. The<\/span><span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hepb.org\/what-is-hepatitis-b\/faqs\/is-there-a-cure-for-hepatitis-b\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hepatitis B Foundation<\/a><\/span><span> also states on its website that there is no cure but notes there are approved therapies to help manage the virus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis claim is false,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blumberginstitute.org\/our-scientists\/principal-investigators\/member\/6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chari Cohen<\/a>, president of the Hepatitis B. Foundation, said in an email to Check Your Fact. \u201cWhile there are good treatments that can slow down viral replication and reduce the chance of liver damage and liver cancer, there is no cure yet for hepatitis B.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cohen added that there are currently dozens of scientists around the world researching a cure and that he is optimistic one will be discovered.<\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time health-based misinformation has circulated on social media.
