A spokesperson for the Mississippi Department of Education denied the claim.<\/p>\n<p>A recent survey conducted by PDK International found that nearly half of all American adult respondents were in favor of arming teachers as a means to prevent school shootings, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.edweek.org\/leadership\/45-percent-of-american-adults-support-armed-teachers-in-schools-poll-finds\/2022\/08\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Education Week<\/a>. A viral Facebook post claims the state of Mississippi recently passed a law to do just that.<\/p>\n<div id=\"rev-more-content\">\n<p>\u201cMississippi just passed the law that all teachers, with permits are allowed to carry on campus,\u201d reads the widely shared July 26 post.<\/p>\n<p>The claim is inaccurate. Check Your Fact found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Mississippi+recently+passed+a+law+allowing+teachers+with+gun+permits+to+carry+on+school+campuses&#038;oq=Mississippi+recently+passed+a+law+allowing+teachers+with+gun+permits+to+carry+on+school+campuses&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57.268j0j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">no credible news reports<\/a> to suggest that a recent Mississippi law allows teachers to carry guns on school campuses. Rather, the State Board\u2019s vote today removed language from a policy that conflicted with Mississippi\u2019s 2011 enhanced conceal carry laws. The policy update is part of an ongoing review of State Board policies to make sure all are up to date and in compliance with current law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdek12.org\/news\/2022\/7\/21\/MDE-responds-to-misinformation-about-the-SBEs-policy-update-regarding-weapons-on-school-campuses_20220721\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press release<\/a> goes on to note that each school\u2019s weapons policy must be determined by local school districts. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2018\/09\/21\/fact-check-assault-weapons-school-shootings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Have Assault Weapons Been Used In \u2018Hundreds\u2019 Of School Shootings?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time a false claim regarding guns in schools has appeared on social media.
