But it\u2019s not enough.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Good to at last ditch the <em>false<\/em> idea that standing six feet away from someone while still sharing their airspace will stop you from getting COVID. (We now know that it\u2019s all about good air circulation.) But the bureaucrats took more than a year to catch up with the science, even as the directive did endless social damage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As for the insane requirement that vaxxed people merely <em>exposed<\/em> to the virus need to isolate for more than a week: it did nothing for overall COVID outcomes in the US. But it <em>did<\/em> cripple businesses and interrupt schooling against a backdrop of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/01\/05\/shuttering-classrooms-is-more-harmful-to-kids-than-covid\/\">learning loss already massive from closures.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>But much damage is already done (and likely irreversible for kids).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The CDC also changed its tune on wide-scale testing of the asymptomatic.<strong> <\/strong>Makes sense: the actual science has shown testing is worse than useless as a blunt-force instrument.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But the agency won\u2019t let go of its attachment to masks, still <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/06\/13\/heres-where-masks-and-vaccines-are-still-required-in-nyc\/\">recommending them indoors in areas<\/a> with high \u201ccommunity levels\u201d of COVID<strong> <\/strong>\u2014 though mask mandates have had <em>zero<\/em> noticeable effect on the pandemic. <\/p>\n<p>Notably, the CDC\u2019s shift comes at an opportune moment for Democrats, who need some big wins heading into November.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Then again, most Americans have been ignoring the prior CDC guidelines for months, treating the virus as the low-level risk it is for almost everyone.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>COVID \u201cis here to stay,\u201d said a CDC epidemiologist.
