Its severity was not entirely the result of events on that day.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cYou were not some bystander who just got swept up in the crowd,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/norton.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/president-obama-nominates-christopher-cooper-for-us-district-court-judge\">\u00a0Obama judge Christopher Cooper<\/a>. \u201cIt really seems as though you think of partisan politics as war and that you continue to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/dc-md-va\/2022\/08\/11\/robertson-jan6-sentence-rocky-mount-police\/\">believe these conspiracy theories<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0 As CBS reported, Robertson \u201cclung to baseless conspiracy theories that the 2020 election was stolen from then-president Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tJudge Cooper also found it particularly \u201cdisturbing\u201d that Robertson made militant comments after law enforcement officers were critically injured at the Capitol.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAs the <em>Washington Post<\/em> noted, prosecutors \u201ctook the unusual step of publishing two detailed FBI investigations into the claims Robertson made in his appeal for mercy.\u201d According to the FBI, Robertson could be guilty of a crime for using \u201cstolen valor\u201d for material benefit. Robertson\u2019s attorneys told the court the wooden stick was a walking aid the defendant used after being shot in the thigh while working for the Defense Department in Afghanistan in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tJudge Cooper said Robertson\u2019s sentence is \u201ca long time because it reflects the seriousness of the offenses that you were convicted of.\u201d That could stand some independent cross-examination.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIn Cooper\u2019s own account, Robertson is being sentenced \u201cfor a long time\u201d over things he <em>said<\/em>, and when he said them. According to the Obama judge, Roberston had made the troubling statements \u201cafter law enforcement officer officers were critically injured at the capitol,\u201d a veiled reference to Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOn January 8, 2021, the <em>New York Times<\/em> charged that rioters had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2021\/01\/08\/us\/brian-sicknick-police-capitol-dies.html\">bludgeoned the officer to death with a fire extinguisher<\/a>. In reality, there was no sign of injury and Sicknick died on January 7, 2021 of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/article\/2021\/apr\/20\/update-capitol-police-officer-sicknick-died-natura\/\">two strokes<\/a> brought on by a blood clot. The <em>Times<\/em> disguised its correction as an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/2021\/02\/the-times-corrects-the-record-on-officer-sicknicks-death-sort-of\/\">update<\/a>\u201d and\u00a0 attacked the reporting of Julie Kelly at American Greatness.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAs Kelly noted, the January 6 committee <a href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2022\/07\/25\/media-and-select-committee-continue-to-lie-about-sicknick\/\">continues to lie about Sicknick<\/a>. Judge Cooper is on board with the falsehood, and observers have to wonder about his commitment to the First Amendment and free speech. Belief in a conspiracy theory is not a crime, and should not be a sentencing enhancement.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe court brought in the FBI to render judgment on Roberson\u2019s appeal for mercy, but FBI stagecraft on January 6 seems to have escaped notice. Ten days before Robertson\u2019s sentence, Guy Reffitt was sentenced to a similar lengthy term.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cToday\u2019s sentence reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed by Mr. Reffitt, and underscores the wanton disregard he had for one of the pillars of our democracy\u2014the peaceful transition of power,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/pr\/texas-man-sentenced-prison-actions-related-capitol-breach\">Steven M. D\u2019Antuono<\/a>, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAs Julie Kelly has noted, agent D\u2019Antuono was the prime player in the fake plot to kidnap\u00a0 Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. The FBI lost in court but D\u2019Antuono was <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/04\/wray-fbi-dc-office-whitmer\/\">promoted to the FBI\u2019s Washington Office<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOn January 6, 2021, the doors of the Capitol were open and protesters <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/01\/08\/watch-the-capitol-police-open-the-doors-and-invite-protesters-in\/\">invited in<\/a>. So contrary to countless media reports, the protesters did not \u201cstorm the capital.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe worst attack on the U.S. Capitol took place on November 7, 1983, when a far-left female-led domestic terrorist group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontpagemag.com\/fpm\/2021\/02\/when-far-left-female-led-domestic-terrorism-group-lloyd-billingsley\/\">bombed the building<\/a>. As historian William Rosenau noted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tonight-Bombed-U-S-Capitol-Explosive\/dp\/1501170120\"><em>Tonight We Bombed the U.S. Capitol<\/em><\/a>, the bombers were straight out of the Weather Underground and other leftist groups.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe January 6 Select Committee, with no representation for the accused, is straight of the Moscow show trials of the Stalin Era. As the <a href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2022\/06\/25\/more-than-a-stalinist-show-trial\/\">late Sidney Hook noted<\/a> <em>in Out of Step: An Unquiet Life in the Twentieth Century<\/em>, \u201cthe Moscow trials and the purges that followed them, were a turning point in the history of American liberalism, for it was irrevocably polarized\u00a0 by the controversies to which the trials gave rise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFor the leftist faithful of the time, the accused old Bosheviks were guilty as charged and the trials were a model of fairness. The Democrats\u2019 January 6 committee, and the trials that follow, give off a Stalinist stank all their own: withholding of evidence, punishment for statements and beliefs, and covert operations by the FBI, now the American KGB.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe leading champion of the Moscow show trials was Walter Duranty of the <em>New York Times<\/em>, who also covered up Stalin\u2019s planned famine in Ukraine. With a false report that officer Sicknick was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher, and that the January 6 events were an armed insurrection, the <em>Times<\/em> replicates Duranty\u2019s performance. So do media accounts that portray the trials of January 6 protesters as a model of fair treatment under the law.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tOn January 6, 2021, the only death by gunfire was unarmed U.S. Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt, 35, shot down by Capitol Police officer Michel Byrd. The Department of Justice declined to pursue charges against Byrd and \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/pr\/department-justice-closes-investigation-death-ashli-babbitt\">closed the investigation<\/a> into this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBy contrast, Thomas Robertson gets seven years for carrying a wooden stick, for making certain statements, and for believing in \u201cconspiracy theories.\u201d For the January 6 political prisoners, it\u2019s no justice and no peace.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For carrying a \u201clarge wooden stick\u201d on January 6 &#8212; and for things the ex-officer said and believed.
