Governments should be afraid of their people.\u201d When a young director in Karachi, Pakistan, adapted \u201cVendetta\u201d for a live theatrical performance 10 years ago, he <a href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/220895\/people-should-not-be-afraid-of-their-governments-governments-should-be-afraid-of-their-people\">repeated the line<\/a> during the play\u2019s curtain call to raucous applause from the audience. Moore\u2019s simple words reflect poignantly the human desire to be free from government tyranny.<\/p>\n<p>Moore\u2019s statement is widely embraced in the United States, where \u201cthe people\u201d are constitutionally vested with power over government. It is doubtful, however, that today\u2019s permanent bureaucracy in Washington, D.C., would concur.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This philosophical divide between the American people and their government is an important one. Should the American people be afraid of the U.S. government? Of course not. Yet a new army of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/08\/10\/irs-job-listing-special-agents-must-carry-firearm-be-willing-use-deadly-force\/\">IRS agents<\/a> that will be used to audit <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/03\/democrats-turbo-charging-irs-go-after-middle-class\/\">middle-class<\/a> Americans and a partisan <a href=\"https:\/\/twitchy.com\/samj-3930\/2022\/08\/11\/for-hillary-no-warrant-no-raid-receipt-field-thread-shares-damning-deets-about-man-behind-fbis-raid-on-trumps-home\/\">DOJ and FBI<\/a> that routinely ignore <a href=\"https:\/\/theconservativetreehouse.com\/blog\/2020\/06\/07\/fbi-pledges-allegiance-to-black-lives-matter-antifa-nation-of-islam-and-new-black-panthers-protesters\/\">leftist violence<\/a> while throwing the book at <a href=\"https:\/\/theconservativetreehouse.com\/blog\/2021\/04\/16\/representative-markwayne-mullin-confronts-fbi-director-christopher-wray-about-difference-between-prosecuting-capitol-hill-protestors-vs-blm-antifa-violence-thus-almost-hitting-a-point-many-miss-blm\/\">MAGA voters<\/a> strongly suggest otherwise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Does the federal government still work for American citizens, or have American citizens become nothing more than subjects expected to obey Washington\u2019s bureaucratic regime? For many Americans, the answer to that question is glaringly obvious.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After Chris Wray\u2019s FBI launched an unprecedented raid of President Trump\u2019s private residence at Mar-a-Lago on Aug. 8, the director\u2019s immediate concern was not his agency\u2019s appearance of impropriety but the denouncement of his lackeys\u2019 behavior by the American public.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m always concerned about threats to law enforcement,\u201d Wray <a href=\"https:\/\/twitchy.com\/samj-3930\/2022\/08\/11\/conservatives-respond-to-fbi-director-denouncing-their-rhetoric-after-fbi-raided-trumps-home-and-hooboy-was-that-ever-dumb\/\">declared<\/a> while saying nothing of threats to Americans from federal law enforcement. Who is more of a threat to American liberty: citizens using their constitutionally protected free speech to criticize the FBI or wayward FBI agents acting under the color of law?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Clearly, those with great power represent the greatest threat to freedom. For those such as Wray, who believe the FBI is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegatewaypundit.com\/2022\/08\/dirtbag-chris-wray-says-fbi-real-victim-six-years-spying-trump-unprecedented-raid-home-mar-lago\/\">real victim<\/a>, it is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/the-media\/2022\/08\/10\/watch-corporate-media-tar-critics-of-fbis-trump-raid-as-qanon-fans-calling-for-violence\/\">citizen<\/a> expressing himself who must be held accountable.<\/p>\n<p>Wray\u2019s decision to shield his agents from criticism while obliquely intimidating citizens is hardly a departure from the federal government\u2019s standard operating procedure. Before the Democrats\u2019 recent addition of 87,000 new prying IRS agents to hound American taxpayers, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitchy.com\/sarahd-313035\/2022\/08\/10\/job-alert-the-irs-is-looking-for-criminal-investigation-special-agents-who-will-carry-a-firearm-and-be-willing-to-use-deadly-force-if-necessary\/\">hiring of agents<\/a> who will \u201ccarry a firearm and be willing to use deadly force,\u201d Barack Obama\u2019s IRS was already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/robertwood\/2014\/12\/10\/obama-justice-department-was-involved-in-irs-targeting-lerner-emails-reveal\/?sh=748e98a26931\">targeting and harassing<\/a> conservative organizations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Why should Americans expect a greatly expanded and well-armed IRS to behave any differently this time?<\/p>\n<p>A similar abuse of power during Obama\u2019s presidency occurred when his Environmental Protection Agency <a href=\"https:\/\/legalinsurrection.com\/2016\/09\/court-farmers-can-continue-suit-against-epa-over-release-of-personal-info-to-environmental-groups\/\">released<\/a> \u201csensitive, private, and personal materials on more than 100,000 farmers and ranchers\u201d to outside environmental groups in what was seen as an intentional effort to promote \u201ceco-activist tyranny.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was not enough for the EPA to harass America\u2019s farmers with endless agricultural, livestock, and water regulations; the agency decided to permit outside \u201chelp\u201d to further its interests in enforcing \u201cgreen\u201d regulations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now that congressional Democrats have succeeded in finding a path for greatly expanding the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/08\/06\/us-senate-democrats-get-the-green-light-on-430-billion-climate-drug-bill.html\">Green New Deal<\/a> \u201cclimate change\u201d agenda, it is likely that the EPA\u2019s harassment of farmers will continue in the future.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The FBI, the IRS, and the EPA are but three agencies with tremendous powers that can be used to intimidate or imperil Americans. There are more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/waynecrews\/2017\/07\/05\/how-many-federal-agencies-exist-we-cant-drain-the-swamp-until-we-know\/?sh=7c27eec31aa2\">400<\/a> departments, agencies, and sub-agencies within the federal government, and \u201cno one knows definitively how many agencies, components, and commissions exist.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Each of these authorities is constantly issuing rules, regulations, and guidelines that affect Americans\u2019 rights and liberties without their knowledge. Each of those bodies exercises jurisdiction over the American people in ways that most don\u2019t even realize.\u00a0Does this sound like a government afraid of its citizens or <a href=\"https:\/\/waynedupree.com\/2022\/08\/hodge-twins-5-things-biden-regime\/\">tyranny<\/a>?<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  J.B.
