County Registrar-Recorder\/County Clerk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Los Angeles County\u00a0Registrar-Recorder\/County Clerk Dean C. Logan said his office had finished the examination and verification of the 715,833 petition signatures sent in to recall the controversial progressive DA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cBased on the examination and verification, which conducted in compliance with the statutory and regulatory requirements of the\u00a0California Government Code, Elections Code, and Code of Regulations,\u00a0520,050 signatures were found to be valid and 195,783 were found to be invalid,\u201d Logan\u2019s office <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/los-angeles-county-da-george-gascon-recall-petition-found-insufficient-qualify-ballot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a news release.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: The effort to recall L.A. Details below. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FoxNews?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FoxNews<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uoEo473QBO\">pic.twitter.com\/uoEo473QBO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Bill Melugin (@BillMelugin_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BillMelugin_\/status\/1559283188064722946?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 15, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In order to qualify for the recall to be taken to the ballot, there needed to be 566,857 valid petition signatures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201c[T]herefore, the petition has failed to meet the sufficiency requirements and no further action shall be taken on the petition,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The invalid signatures included 88,464 that were not registered, 43,593 duplicates, 32,187 had a different address, 9,490 had a mismatched signature, 7,344 were canceled, 5,374 were out of county addresses, and 9,331 were labeled as \u201cOther.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The recall effort now has 21 days to start examining the signatures if they wish to do so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gasc\u00f3n has repeatedly been criticized for implementing policies that don\u2019t properly punish criminals, which opponents argue have made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/los-angeles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles<\/a> more dangerous.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAs soon as he was sworn into office, District Attorney George Gascon began issuing directives to his prosecutors, instructing them to go\u00a0soft on crime, coddle criminals, and trample upon the dignity and rights of crime victims,\u201d the Recall DA George Gascon website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recalldageorgegascon.com\/why-recall-da-george-gascon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">states<\/a>. \u201cTo keep our communities safe, to mete out just punishment to those who break our laws, and to provide justice to crime victims throughout Los Angles County,\u00a0we must recall District Attorney George Gascon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Gasc\u00f3n <a href=\"https:\/\/ktla.com\/news\/local-news\/l-a-county-da-george-gascon-faces-blowback-in-first-months-of-launching-ambitious-slate-toward-criminal-justice-reform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">campaigned<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/George_Gasc%C3%B3n_recall,_Los_Angeles_County,_California_(2021-2022)#cite_note-addtlinfo-11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">policies<\/a> he later implemented, such as not pursuing the death penalty, not prosecuting minors as adults, and stopping cash bails for certain crimes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In June of last year, Gasc\u00f3n <a href=\"https:\/\/ktla.com\/news\/local-news\/l-a-county-da-george-gascon-addresses-opposition-to-his-reforms-amid-recall-effort\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">addressed<\/a> the uptick in crime.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe reality is crime has been going up, in fact, in L.A. County we had a 25% increase in violent crime over the last seven years because we continue to do the same things over and over again, expecting different results,\u201d Gasc\u00f3n said. \u201cWhat I am doing is, I am revamping the way that we address violence by using science, using data, taking a public health lens approach with the way that we deal with crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">San Francisco District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/chesa-boudin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chesa Boudin<\/a> was recently successfully recalled after facing similar criticism.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Daily Wire has reached out to the Recall DA George Gascon campaign for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The attempt to recall Los Angeles District Attorney George Gasc\u00f3n has failed to secure enough valid signatures to take the decision to the ballot, according to the L.A.
