Panneton attacked the practice of praying with the rosary: \u201cin these hands \u2014 is anything but holy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The article didn\u2019t stop with attacking the rosary. The op-ed also shifted to an attack on manhood in the church.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis conflation of the masculine and the military is rooted in wider anxieties about Catholic manhood,\u201d Panneton wrote, \u201cthe idea that it is in crisis has some currency among senior Church figures and lay organizations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The criticism continued with a look at the Supreme Court\u2019s overturning of <em>Roe v. Wade<\/em>, which returned laws concerning abortion to individual states. Instead of considering the multiple factors involved or the value of life in the womb, Panneton claimed, \u201cChristian nationalism is cemented in common causes such as hostility toward abortion-rights advocates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Panneton\u2019s byline identifies him as a writer based in Toronto, Canada. His linked Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DBPanneton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">account<\/a> describes him as a museum worker and an \u201conline hate researcher.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Atlantic contributor is also listed as the manager of the Online Hate Research &#038; Education Project at the Sarah and Chaim Neuberger Holocaust Education Centre. His biography on the organization\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.holocaustcentre.com\/about-us\/who-we-are\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">website<\/a> states that Panneton holds master\u2019s degrees in History from Queen\u2019s University and Museum Studies from the University of Toronto and currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Toronto Ward Museum.<\/p>\n<p>Panneton\u2019s attack on the rosary has received harsh criticism from many. Conservative writer John Hasson noted, \u201cSo much ignorance displayed in so few words.
