Djokovic has said he won\u2019t get vaccinated against the illness caused by the coronavirus, even if that prevents him from playing in certain tournaments. He missed the Australian Open in January after being deported from that country and needed to sit out two events in the United States earlier this year, along with a tournament in Montreal this week.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Novak Djokovic Detained AGAIN in Australia, Declared Public Threat<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/g1TLrTtxNy\">https:\/\/t.co\/g1TLrTtxNy<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1482306568855117825?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">January 15, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Unvaccinated foreign citizens can\u2019t go to Canada or the U.S. currently; the Cincinnati tournament\u2019s news release announcing Djokovic\u2019s withdrawal cited \u201ctravel restrictions.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Djokovic has said he was still holding out hope of being able to enter the U.S. Open, but that would require a change of government policy, which the U.S. Tennis Association says it will adhere to.<\/p>\n<p>Djokovic is a three-time champion at the U.S. Open and was the runner-up last year to Daniil Medvedev.<\/p>\n<p>Other men who have withdrawn from the field in Cincinnati include defending champion Alexander Zverev \u2013 the 2020 U.S. Open runner-up tore ankle ligaments at the French Open in June \u2013 and injured players Gael Monfils, Reilly Opelka, Oscar Otte and Dominic Thiem.
