We\u2019ve talked about it again recently, and I expect he\u2019ll be making a decision before too long.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pelosi\u2019s visit to Taiwan was used as a pretext by China\u2019s communist regime to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/taiwan-pm-warns-china-could-invade-as-chinese-missiles-land-in-nearby-japans-waters_4643194.html\">launch<\/a> a series of escalatory military drills in the Indo-Pacific, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/g7-calls-on-china-to-stop-threatening-actions-around-taiwan_4640461.html\">drew<\/a> international outrage and condemnation. The incident brought the already fraught Sino\u2013American relationship to its lowest point in decades.<\/p>\n<p>According to Raimondo, it also means that Biden can\u2019t now undo some of the Trump-era policies intended to punish China for its rampant theft of U.S. technologies.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trump-says-biden-administrations-talk-of-lifting-china-tariffs-is-a-terrible-mistake_4579899.html\">exploring<\/a> the possibility of ending some tariffs raised on Chinese goods by former President Donald Trump. However, U.S. trade representatives have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us-trade-representative-cautions-against-removing-trump-era-tariffs-on-chinese-imports_4552780.html\">cautioned<\/a> against the move, saying that it would needlessly give up a piece of negotiating leverage to China.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/trump-hits-china-with-tariffs-and-investment-restrictions_2472774.html\">imposed<\/a>\u00a0tariffs on roughly $300 billion in Chinese imports in 2018. The move was a response to a federal investigation that concluded that China\u2019s communist regime had stolen intellectual property from U.S. companies as part of a systematic effort to force technology transfer between the two nations.<\/p>\n<p>Now Biden is considering the removal of some of the tariffs\u2014ranging from microchips to t-shirts\u2014to combat the record inflation that has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/americans-inflation-expectations-hit-record-high-new-york-fed_4592622.html\">become<\/a> a hallmark of his presidency. By getting rid of the tariffs, the administration hopes to reduce the cost of living for U.S. families by pouring cheap Chinese goods into the market.<\/p>\n<p>The administration hasn\u2019t indicated which specific duties it may remove. Raimondo said Biden is still considering what to do with the tariffs and that he\u2019s \u201cvery cautious\u201d about weighing his options.<\/p>\n<p>Raimondo previously came <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/commerce-cronyism-inside-deals-conflicts-of-interest-and-chinese-connections_4479928.html\">under fire<\/a> for her family\u2019s financial interests in China. Her husband, Andy Moffit, is a top executive and strategic adviser at a tech company <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/12\/14\/gina-raimondos-husband-reportedly-works-at-company-linked-to-china\/\">funded<\/a> partially by venture capital linked to the Chinese Communist Party (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/t-ccp\">CCP<\/a>). She and her husband also personally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/bidens-commerce-secretary-owns-stake-in-wechat-parent-company-as-white-house-reviews-trumps-ban_3723256.html\">own<\/a> a financial stake in Tencent, the parent company of WeChat, a social media platform used by the CCP to monitor and collect personal data from international users.<\/p>\n<p>Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/wechat-ban-allows-chinese-americans-to-break-free-from-beijings-propaganda-users-say_3460945.html\">banned<\/a> WeChat from the United States in 2020, citing national security concerns.
