After decades of being taken for granted by the Democratic Party, Hispanic voters are rallying to the America First movement in droves, promising to radically reorient the balance of power in American politics.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">A recent New York Times-Siena College poll found that Democrats and Republicans are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/07\/13\/upshot\/poll-2022-midterms-congress.html\">statistically tied<\/a> among Hispanic voters on the generic congressional ballot for this year\u2019s midterm elections. As Axios<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2022\/07\/14\/republicans-democrats-hispnanic-voters\">\u00a0points out<\/a> in an article referring to this phenomenon as the \u201cGreat Realignment,\u201d Democrats held a 47-point advantage among Hispanic voters as recently as the 2018 midterms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Democrats have only themselves to blame. They have routinely insulted, demeaned, and belittled Hispanic voters with both their policies and their rhetoric, so they should not be surprised that Hispanic voters are increasingly wary of casting their ballots for people who disregard and disparage Hispanic values. To Democrats, Hispanics have never been anything more than a rich source of votes in areas of the country that are otherwise solidly Republican. But the tide turns, dramatically. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Democrats have spent so long treating Hispanics as an afterthought that they can\u2019t even find a way to pander to us anymore without accidentally insulting the very voters with whom they are trying to curry favor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Everyone is familiar with the infamous label \u201cLatinx.\u201d Democrats invented it because they\u2019re deeply uncomfortable with the use of gender identifiers in the Spanish language \u2013 not surprising from a party that has embraced identity politics so tightly that they no longer know what a \u201cwoman\u201d is.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">So, according to their twisted logic, invent a brand-new, gender-neutral term that nobody requested. Plus, they probably got tired of saying \u201cLatinos and Latinas,\u201d and figured we wouldn\u2019t mind.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">But we do mind. Polling consistently shows that only around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/hispanic\/2020\/08\/11\/about-one-in-four-u-s-hispanics-have-heard-of-latinx-but-just-3-use-it\/\">3 percent<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2021\/08\/05\/us\/latinx-gallup-poll-preference-trnd\/index.html\">4 percent<\/a> of Hispanics actually use the term \u201cLatinx.\u201d Presumably, most of them either teach Chicano Studies at universities or work for the DNC. Moreover, many Hispanics \u2013<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/think\/opinion\/many-latinos-say-latinx-offends-or-bothers-them-here-s-ncna1285916\">40 percent<\/a> in one poll \u2013 find the term \u201cLatinx\u201d downright offensive. I\u2019m one of them.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In recent years, Democrats have been trying to do damage control. It hasn\u2019t gone well.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">In 2020, Joe Biden tried to show that he understands the diversity of the Hispanic community, which Democrats have been criticized for treating as a monolithic bloc.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He even managed to do it without employing the noxious term \u201cLatinx.\u201d Unfortunately for him, he couldn\u2019t manage it without insulting another core Democratic constituency and making it abundantly obvious that doesn\u2019t understand Hispanics at all. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cUnlike the African American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly diverse attitudes about different things,\u201d Biden<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/08\/06\/joe-biden-latino-african-american-remark-392354\">\u00a0said<\/a>. Joe also decided that effective Hispanic outreach involved playing the song \u201cDespacito\u201d on his mobile phone into a microphone.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Of course, those antics were nothing compared to what Joe\u2019s wife, First Lady Jill Biden, said about us during a recent appearance in San Antonio, Texas. In a typically obtuse effort to connect with Latino voters, Mrs. Biden actually<a href=\"https:\/\/cnycentral.com\/first-lady-catches-criticism-after-taco-comparison-frustrations-with-stalled-progress-jill-biden-white-house-joe-biden-agenda-congress-democrats-we-are-not-tacos-jill-bidens-comments-on-latinos-stalled-agenda-raise-eyebrows\">\u00a0compared<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/cnycentral.com\/first-lady-catches-criticism-after-taco-comparison-frustrations-with-stalled-progress-jill-biden-white-house-joe-biden-agenda-congress-democrats-we-are-not-tacos-jill-bidens-comments-on-latinos-stalled-agenda-raise-eyebrows\">us<\/a> to \u201cbreakfast tacos.\u201d That\u2019s right \u2013 Jill Biden said Hispanics are like breakfast tacos, and that was her earnest attempt to win us back to the Democratic fold.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Is it any wonder that Hispanic voters are reconsidering their political affiliations? There was a time when Democrats genuinely seemed to try harder to understand and address Hispanic interests and concerns. Now, they call us \u201cLatinxs\u201d and \u201cbreakfast tacos.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The way they\u2019re going, Democrats will be lucky to split the Hispanic vote with Republicans.
