McCarthy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xrMm3YmCNsc\">told<\/a> Klavan he believes the FBI searched Trump\u2019s property with a \u201ccloset agenda\u201d to look for information regarding the president\u2019s role in the events of January 6, and that there is a good chance the DOJ will indict the former president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say that seven chances in ten he\u2019s going to be indicted,\u201d the National Review contributing editor told a surprised Klavan. \u201cThey may add classified information charges now that they\u2019ve done this, but they are gunning to get him \u2026 on January 6.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCarthy added that he suspects the FBI had a \u201ccloset agenda\u201d behind the search warrant that gave agents access to Trump\u2019s residence at Mar-a-Lago. He said that the bureau was really looking for evidence that Trump conspired to prevent the certification of the 2020 election on January 6, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think they are mainly trying to make a case on Trump related to January 6, and I think that if you look at the timeline of what they\u2019ve done in the six weeks in which this Mar-a-Lago search is included, that becomes clear,\u201d McCarthy said.<\/p>\n<p>The former federal prosecutor explained that just because he believes the FBI had a \u201ccloset agenda\u201d in its search, that doesn\u2019t mean the bureau lied to the court or that it doesn\u2019t care about the reported classified documents at Trump\u2019s home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just think they wanted a reason to get into Trump\u2019s residence and root around for things that might be helpful to them while they\u2019re frenetically trying to make a January 6 case,\u201d McCarthy commented.<\/p>\n<p>According to a Washington Post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2022\/08\/11\/garland-trump-mar-a-lago\/\">report<\/a> Thursday, FBI agents were seeking nuclear weapons secrets that Trump had allegedly taken with him after leaving the White House in January 2021. However, unsealed copies of the warrant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/trump-raid-warrant-receipts-make-no-mention-of-nuclear-weapons\">showed<\/a> no specific mention of classified nuclear documents.<\/p>\n<p>Klavan asked McCarthy if Americans are justified in their concern about the FBI abusing its authority following the Trump raid.<\/p>\n<p>The FBI has \u201clost the benefit of the doubt,\u201d McCarthy responded. \u201cI\u2019ve argued that I think the national security mission should be taken away from them \u2026 because I think it\u2019s changed the culture of the bureau.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The FBI, according to McCarthy, has become more like an intelligence agency than a police force after the U.S. government focused on stopping terrorism in the 1990s and then following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the bureau has accepted a culture of \u201csaving the country\u201d over a dedication to following the rules that limit its scope and authority, McCarthy argued.
