The question remains if the issue is important enough to swing voters to make up for the dismal odds the Democratic Party faces against the GOP in November.<\/p>\n<p>As of this writing, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/2022-election\/race-forecasts-ratings-and-predictions\/house\/\">Politico\u2019s Election forecast<\/a> predicts the House will go to Republicans in the 2022 midterms. Democrats hope to crawl back into the good graces of Americans with the Inflation Reduction Act, which they\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/how-the-inflation-reduction-act-reduces-health-care-costs\/\">say<\/a> will lower healthcare costs for Americans.<\/p>\n<p>As the article points out, drug price negotiations that would lower the cost for Americans won\u2019t begin until 2026 and price caps for spending on Medicare for seniors won\u2019t take effect until 2025.<\/p>\n<div id=\"rev-more-content\">\n<p>\u201cDemocrats will have some challenges selling this to voters because they will not have a lot tangible to show yet. So they\u2019ll have to sell it mainly as a historic victory over Big Pharma and ask the public to trust them on the positive changes yet to come,\u201d Larry Levitt, the Executive Vice President for Health Policy at the Kaiser Family Foundation, told Politico.<\/p>\n<p>Voters care a lot about healthcare costs and access, but the question is do they care enough, and does this issue trump other concerns facing Americans. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/29\/democrats-abortion-enthusiasm-problem-midterms-vote-november\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0New Poll Dashes Dems\u2019 Hopes Of Pro-Abortion Voters Thwarting A Red Wave)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Healthcare is undoubtedly a high priority issue for Democrat voters. Among likely Democrat midterm voters, 74% say healthcare is a very important issue for the midterms, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2022\/03\/24\/republicans-more-likely-than-democrats-to-say-partisan-control-of-congress-really-matters\/\">according<\/a> to a Pew Research poll. Importance is, however, a partisan topic, as only 44% of Republicans say it is a very important issue for them for November.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Democrats say the Inflation Reduction Act will lower healthcare costs and boost clean energy, while Republicans warn of IRS overreach and higher prices <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/V8ORterply\">https:\/\/t.co\/V8ORterply<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WSJ\/status\/1557739911301570565?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 11, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This may bode well for Democrats, assuming they can assure voters that their policies are positively impacting drug prices. But economic issues, a sore subject for Democrat voters in this economy, still remain a top issue for voters, trumping healthcare.<\/p>\n<p>According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2022\/03\/24\/republicans-more-likely-than-democrats-to-say-partisan-control-of-congress-really-matters\/pp_2022-03-24_2022-midterms_00-05\/\">Pew Research<\/a> poll taken in March, healthcare is the third top issue for all voters, with 60% saying it is very important to their vote. The issue was heavily divided along partisan lines, with 44% of Republicans and 74% of Democrats saying it was a very important issue to them. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/07\/26\/zakaria-lemon-cnn-midterms\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0\u2018The Worst Ever\u2019: CNN Host Delivers A Blow To Dems\u2019 Midterm Hopes)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the same poll, the economy still topped the list of important issues for both voters. Of those polled, 78% said the economy was a top issue for them. Even among Democrats, well over half of those polled said it was a very important issue, at 68%. The report said that\u00a0total healthcare spending would increase by more than $50 billion over a period of 20 years under the drug pricing proposals in the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, the inflation crisis Americans face under the Biden presidency may hit <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/08\/11\/biden-inflation-medical-care-cost-healthcare-drug-prices\/\">healthcare<\/a> costs the hardest, the Daily Caller\u2019s Dylan Housman reports. This is a problem for Democrats, since their best hope for using healthcare to boost their midterm chances is in lowering prices, especially given the bleak economy inflation has gifted Americans. Current prices don\u2019t reflect skyrocketing inflation, which will hit American pocketbooks much later.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats\u2019 best chance to make healthcare a deciding issue for midterm voters is in proving that their policies will reduce prices. Such a strategy would couple Democrats\u2019 healthcare legislation with Americans\u2019 understandable concern about the economy, and show midterm voters that left-wing healthcare policies can help ease the toll which the economy under Biden has taken.
