Records extended to \u201cAny government and\/or Presidential Records created between January 20, 2017, and January 20, 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, had Trump written something down on a napkin, federal officials were authorized to raid the former president\u2019s home and capture it. <\/p>\n<p>The affidavit allegedly asserting probable cause has not been made available to the public by the DOJ or the federal court that sealed it. The search warrant was signed on Aug. 5 and gave authorities two weeks to conduct the unprecedented raid. The federal magistrate who signed the warrant <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/federal-judge-warrant-property-receipt-from-fbi-raid-of-mar-a-lago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">previously donated<\/a> thousands to former President Barack Obama. Attorney General Merrick Garland, whose Supreme Court nomination was invalidated after Donald Trump became president in 2017, acknowledged that he personally signed off on the raid in a Thursday <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/read-merrick-garlands-full-remarks-fbis-search-trumps\/story?id=88257832\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">press conference<\/a>. Garland also claimed the search was conducted with a narrow scope. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst, I personally approved the decision to seek a search warrant in this matter,\u201d Garland said. \u201cSecond, the department does not take such a decision lightly. Where possible, it is standard practice to seek less intrusive means as an alternative to a search, and to narrowly scope any search that is undertaken.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, three days after the warrant was signed, FBI officials conducted the hours-long raid of the 128-room estate which reportedly <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/08\/09\/fbi-even-searched-melanias-wardrobe-in-trump-raid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">included<\/a> an intrusive search of former First Lady Melania Trump\u2019s wardrobe. While ostensibly executed under the pretext of violations of the Presidential Records Act, a law that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/trump-mar-a-lago-raid-2024-ballot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">rarely results in prosecutions<\/a>, the raid has become the latest episode of Democrats weaponizing the Justice Department to go after political opponents, with Trump at the top as public enemy No. 1. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/federal-judge-warrant-property-receipt-from-fbi-raid-of-mar-a-lago\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According<\/a> to Fox News, law enforcement officials say they confiscated classified documents. Trump, however, says documents were declassified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNumber one, it was all declassified. Number two, they didn\u2019t need to \u2018seize\u2019 anything,\u201d the former president <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> on TruthSocial. \u201cThey could have had it anytime they wanted without playing politics and breaking into Mar-a-Lago. It was in secured storage, with an additional lock put on as per their request\u2026 They could have had it anytime they wanted\u2013and that includes LONG ago. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS ASK. The bigger problem is, what are they going to do with the 33 million pages of documents, many of which are classified, that President Obama took to Chicago?\u201d<\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Tristan Justice is the western correspondent for The Federalist.
