This is obviously and provably untrue. Yet Kaling, a single mother of two who did not have her children until her late 30s and early 40s because she didn\u2019t want to interfere with her career, seems to accept that false narrative. <\/p>\n<p>According to this interview, Kaling waited to have children until she felt financially secure and settled in her job.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI waited until I had the means and that made all the difference,\u201d Kaling continued. <\/p>\n<p>Women, especially women who <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/23\/women-dont-need-to-make-a-lot-of-money-to-start-a-family\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">get married to men willing to provide the finances<\/a> required to run a home, don\u2019t have to wait to be in a perfect financial condition to have children. Yet Kaling instead chose to birth and raise her children alone. <\/p>\n<h2>Promoting a Problematic Procedure<\/h2>\n<p>There is no guarantee that frozen eggs will yield children. After all, eggs that are preserved outside a woman\u2019s body must undergo in vitro fertilization or\u00a0intracytoplasmic sperm injection, both of which procedures don\u2019t promise seamless and successful fertilization, before being reimplanted in the womb. <\/p>\n<p>Even the Dr. Rebecca Flyckt \u2014 director of the Fertility Preservation Program at Cleveland Clinic, a program dedicated to prolonging fertility \u2014 says that \u201cfreezing eggs is not as reliable as moving ahead with getting pregnant and having a baby, if you have that option more immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, harvesting eggs can be a <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/05\/when-sperm-and-eggs-are-monetized-human-existence-becomes-transactional\/\">painful, expensive, and sometimes traumatizing procedure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But Kaling said she wants companies to, as Marie Claire author Neha Prakash put it, \u201cprovide more accessible healthcare options in that regard.\u201d Essentially, Kaling wants businesses to pay to keep women from having children in their reproductive prime. <\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/28\/companies-eager-to-subsidize-abortion-because-they-think-only-childless-women-are-profitable\/\">Companies Eager To Subsidize Abortion Because They Think Only Childless Women Are Profitable<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s a problematic goal for numerous reasons, especially considering the fact that little is known about the long-term effects of egg retrieval. <\/p>\n<p>Not only have some women whose eggs were removed reported <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/health-news\/donate-egg-become-infertile\">sudden infertility<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4467930\/#:~:text=Perhaps%20the%20most%20important%20medical,such%20as%20ovarian%20hyperstimulation%20syndrome.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jenniferschneider.com\/pdf\/JS%20FertStert%20Fatal%20Colon%20Cancer.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">fatal colon cancer<\/a>, but one study even explores a possible link between egg retrieval in young women and <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/28473127\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">breast cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Fatherless Children Automatically Have a Disadvantage<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe choice to have a child\u2014by yourself, on your own terms\u2014it was the best part of my life\u2026It\u2019s the thing that I hope women feel confident doing by themselves,\u201d Kaling said in her interview. <\/p>\n<p>Deliberately bringing children into a single-parent home, however, automatically puts kids at <a href=\"http:\/\/futureofchildren.princeton.edu\/sites\/futureofchildren\/files\/foc_vol_30_no_1_combined_v6.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">physical, emotional, and educational disadvantages<\/a> compared to their peers who were raised by their biological parents. Bonus points if those parents are married. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHere are some of the well-known risks for children growing up with a single mother compared to their peers in married-couple families,\u201d the Institute for Family Studies <a href=\"https:\/\/ifstudies.org\/blog\/disentangling-the-effects-of-family-structure-on-boys-and-girls#:~:text=Here%20are%20some%20of%20the,more%20crime%20and%20incarceration%20(especially\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a> in 2020. \u201c[L]ower school achievement, more discipline problems and school suspension, less high school graduation, lower college attendance and graduation, more crime and incarceration (especially for boys), less success in the labor market, and more likely to become single parents themselves (especially for girls), thereby starting the cycle all over again for the next generation.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Specifically, children born into fatherless homes, such as Kaling\u2019s son, are <a href=\"https:\/\/ifstudies.org\/blog\/life-without-father-less-college-less-work-and-more-prison-for-young-men-growing-up-without-their-biological-father\">less likely <\/a>to excel in school or even graduate. Because his biological father is not present, Kaling\u2019s son is <a href=\"https:\/\/ifstudies.org\/blog\/life-without-father-less-college-less-work-and-more-prison-for-young-men-growing-up-without-their-biological-father\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">twice less likely<\/a> to graduate college by his late-20s than his peers who are raised in a family with their biological father.<\/p>\n<p>These statistics are obviously alarming to researchers and should raise the eyebrows of women seeking to have children, yet Kaling seems to take pride in taking on her parenting journey without her children\u2019s father. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope you find a partner, if that\u2019s what you want, but if you are thinking about having kids, and you are waiting for that to be the reason, I just want to encourage you to not feel like you need that. It has been the biggest difference in my life. It\u2019s brought me the most unadulterated joy in my life. If I hadn\u2019t made that decision, I would be kicking myself,\u201d Kaling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parents.com\/parenting\/celebrity-parents\/moms-dads\/mindy-kaling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">said<\/a> in 2020 shortly after her son was born.<\/p>\n<p>Some mothers are left with no choice but to raise their children on their own. But in Kaling\u2019s case, she intentionally conceived children into a life without a father. In fact, it\u2019s something she and her cheerleaders in the media celebrate as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.parents.com\/parenting\/celebrity-parents\/moms-dads\/mindy-kaling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">empowering<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to put my own happiness in my own life. I want to be part of my community of moms and parents, and you don\u2019t need a man to do that,\u201d Kaling said in 2020. <\/p>\n<p>Of course, by all biological measures, women <em>do <\/em>need a man to procreate. But for Kaling, men were out of the equation from the beginning.  <\/p>\n<p>Encouraging young women to engage in a problematic procedure to freeze their eggs so they can have a career reduces women to their work. Encouraging young women to freeze their eggs so they can conceive, birth, and raise kids without a husband hurts them and their children\u2019s chances of having a healthy, successful home life. <\/p>\n<p>Sidelining what\u2019s best for children to accommodate the desires of adults is selfish.
