The thought of 87,000 new IRS agents terrorizing Missourians is disturbing to say the least. The main role of the federal government is to protect our borders and provide security to our citizens against foreign governments \u2026 not to find new ways to extract more hard earned money from the people of this great nation.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen sought to downplay fears of an entire stadium\u2019s worth of federal agents combing through middle- and lower-income Americans\u2019 finances. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>In a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig, Yellen <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/3597316-yellen-tells-irs-not-to-use-new-funding-to-increase-middle-class-audits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">instructed<\/a> the revenue chief to withhold new funding from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-inflation-reduction-act-is-anything-but-spending-power-supply-demand-imbalance-restrictions-regulation-11659289812\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dubiously named<\/a> \u201cInflation Reduction Act\u201d from being used to increase audits of any Americans who earn less than $400,000. <\/p>\n<p>As Federalist Senior Editor David Harsanyi <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/10\/irs-hiring-spree-is-the-biggest-expansion-of-the-police-state-in-american-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pointed out<\/a> Thursday, however, \u201cnothing in the bill that Democrats passed through the Senate limits audits\u201d after Democrats such as Connecticut\u2019s Chris Murphy <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ChrisMurphyCT\/status\/1555728987560841216\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">claimed<\/a> low-income earners would not be audited at higher rates. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMurphy, along with every other Democrat in the Senate,\u201d Harsanyi noted,\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MikeCrapo\/status\/1556177703098884103\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voted against<\/a>\u00a0a Republican amendment that would have prevented new agents from auditing individuals and small businesses with less than $400,000 of taxable income.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his letter to Commissioner Rettig Thursday, Schmitt took particular issue with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/irs-deletes-job-posting-seeking-applicants-willing-to-use-deadly-force\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">since-deleted<\/a> agency job posting wherein applicants should be prepared to \u201ccarry a firearm\u201d and be \u201cwilling to use deadly force.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven more troubling is the militarization of the IRS,\u201d Schmitt wrote, highlighting the revenue service\u2019s possession of \u201cmore than 5 million rounds of ammunition to use in its rifles, shotguns, pistols and submachine guns. \u2026 No tax collection agency needs such firepower.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schmitt pointed to the 2013 tax scandal when the IRS was caught applying undue scrutiny to conservative groups under disgraced ex-director of the Exempt Organizations Unit Lois Lerner. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still remember clearly how the IRS under Lois Lerner abused its power against political opponents of the last Democratic administration,\u201d Schmitt wrote, adding the Biden White House has only escalated its political warfare with an FBI raid of former President Donald Trump on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe real message sent by the federal government to the people of this country through the actions of its agents in the FBI, the Department of Justice, and increasingly militarized IRS is crystal clear,\u201d Schmitt added. \u201cThe Regime is in control and will investigate and punish anyone who stands in its way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The last decade has shown the IRS is far from immune from the politicization of beltway institutions weaponized to persecute political dissidents. A <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/08\/10\/87000-new-irs-agents-will-join-union-that-gives-100-of-pac-funds-to-democrats\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=87000-new-irs-agents-will-join-union-that-gives-100-of-pac-funds-to-democrats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a> from Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) raises further cause for concern. <\/p>\n<p>According to the conservative tax group, the agency\u2019s 87,000 new agents will belong to a union which gave <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/political-action-committees-pacs\/national-treasury-employees-union\/C00107128\/pac-to-pac\/2022\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">100 percent<\/a> of its 2022 Political Action Committee (PAC) donations to Democrats.
